Teel: Exploring the ACC's future with new commissioner Jim Phillips | College Sports | richmond.com

Good interview with new commissioner by David Teel. A few highlights:

- While there is a strong basketball identity, all the schools are working/investing to make football better too, as this drives the bus. All schools seem to be on board.

- While no one will reach them, will work on narrowing the gap between the BIG/SEC. Will focus on the current inventory (ie. current schools) right now and can reassess in the future

- Don't expect ND to join the conference anytime soon, but will continue to assess the situation and said that if ND were to ever join a conference it would be the ACC

- Expects to get carriage for the ACC Network on Comcast once the omnibus deal between Disney/Comcast comes up in September (this has always been the target date)

- Strong proponent for NIL, but need to do it right. Need to have a national rule, not piecemeal state rules, as well as a structure that still keeps recruiting as fair as possible and reduces/eliminates lawsuits in the future while allowing the kids to make revenue on their likeness

- Wants to ensure that football and basketball does not become "professional" in nature and strengthen the model in which football/basketball, while revenue drivers, continue to be able to support all sports and student athletes across the board

- It was posted hear yesterday, but opened up transfer rules so that players can transfer within the conference without penalty

- Has sat down with all of the ADs, and spoken with the majority of coaches in the conference. The tourneys have been an opportunity to meet with student athletes face to face for the first time in the covid era.

As usual, Teel does a great interview.
