Nobody else feasible is saving this huge dumpster fire (and Pitino isn't really feasible either). However, he can say that he has learned a lot and, found God and is a changed man. Works for lots of people.

Most coaches are scumbags. The difference is he got caught. Look at the people we vote for to lead our nation, state, region, etc. Stuff that actually matters. Those are some of the worst humans on the planet. Total scumbags (on both sides of the aisle). But we are worried about a basketball coach being of low character?
Probably not. But he would give Pitt it's best shot at returning to glory.
He would come in a heartbeat and he would take a HUGE DISCOUNT to do so.

FWIW, I know there are a few skeletons in Pitino’s closet but…
I have a buddy who was a football S&C coach at Louisville when Pitino was there. Supposedly when the basketball S&C coach decided to retire, Pitino asked the guy what he planned to do. The guy said he wanted to travel some around the US. Pitino spent his own money and went out and bought the guy a really nice RV as a retirement gift.

That's what I think about Capel, I'm confident he has the "SKILZ" to get down and dirty and do "whatever it takes" WOKE admin won't let him. Personally, I'd love to have a NC or even a Final 4 that get's VACATED, LOLI'd still proudly wear the t shirt and brag about how great it was.
You don't have to get dirty anymore. He needs to get the big-time boosters in a room and establish a pot of money to announce that all Pitt players will make $50K/year "NIL money." Michigan State just did this where all their athletes in all sports will make $5K/year.
Possibly will do this with the Miami Hurricanes next year.
Here’s a better idea. Find a young guy climbing the ladder with the same coaching qualities as Ben Howland. There are a lot of good, young, coaches out there.
To this day it amazes how a little known coach in Flagstaff, AZ could come in and rebuild a Pitt program in the difficult Big East. This was truly an excellent job by Howland.
Add in that his success at Flagstaff was a far different style than what he did here. Howland’s a very good college basketball coach.
Yeah, Howland is great, but it’s pretty well known next year will be his last. The rare coach wanting to retire and actually ENJOY his life. I liked your earlier suggestion of Ryan Odom, and I don’t think he’d leave, but I’d kick the tires on Wes Miller first. Maybe he wants to get back at UNC forever for not hiring him? Nothing spells success like revenge, imo.

I always say anyone would go anywhere if the price is right but I don't $5 or $6 million per year is too big of a risk for Wes Miller when you can get Sean Miller for $2 million per year.

Wes is still a mid-major lottery ticket for now. Sean has made several Elite 8s including one from a mid-major conference as Joe the Panther Fan calls the A10. I'm not saying Wes wont be the better coach eventually, but giving him $5 or $6 million to leave Cincinnati is a big risk when Sean can be had dirt cheap. Sean is not this horrible coach you think he is. He will have is in the NCAAT by Year 3.
Sean had the best A10 job after 4 other coaches already had it humming like a machine and was cheating his balls off with Book while the rest of the conference didn’t cheat. Still no final fours.

what does he do with a job that is 12th best in the conference at a university he’s balked at many times and his whole family has a disdain for without cheating? Nothing. He sucks. It’s why he secretly signed an assistant coaching contract that will be announced in the next few weeks in the NBA. He’s trying to learn how to coach, finally.
Look how good AZ looks this year without him now that they have a coach who teaches the game. AZ is actually running an O. Their returning players have improved a ton especially Koloko…that’s coaching.
