Justice for Ithiel

Exactly what we said would happen. If this kid had truly committed aggravated assault on a police officer no way they drop it down to these charges. There needs to be more oversight and accountability for baseless overcharging by police officers. It happens way to often and it screws with people's lives. Don't get me wrong. Law enforcement is a VERY difficult job and I have the utmost respect for what they do to keep us safe. I do however believe everyone should have check and balances.

Maybe they were giving him a second chance? Lawyers are quite crafty at negotiations, and the police wanted to give him a chance to right his wrong. Let’s see how clean he remains after this and see if he learned from this situation. Who says it was baseless or an overcharge. Maybe, just maybe they felt some need to give him a chance for turning this around. Respect for cops is at an all time low. Let’s remember this player put himself into his bad situation.

How do you know what happened for the reason the officer charged Horton for Aggravated Assault. You can't have anyone cause physical menace to a law enforcement officer in the performance of his duties. If he punched the officer attempted to cause bodily harm and deserved to get arrested. Police just dont go out there and make up criminal offenses. The officer gave him a break.

I would assume we could both label our thoughts speculative in nature considering neither of us were in the court room or the negotiating. My comments are based on 10 years of experience in law enforcement and witnessing regular overcharging and judges calling out officers and DA officials for such practices....yet no accountability. You are entitled to your opinion as am I but I speak from a place of personal experience.

Cops do not like to give people second chances if it involves striking an officer.

Don't be so naive. If officers always operated with the highest moral code there would be no need for internal affairs. People put law enforcement and clergymen on pedestals as if the aren't human.

There’s supposed to be video. Don’t know if it’s a big enough story or worthwhile but I think the video should be available with an FOIA request.

There are exactly two people in the world who believe that the officer gave Ithiel a break, and one of them appears to be you.

Over 35 years working with law enforcement local, state and federal in all courts of law. As you know most charges are thrown out while you are walking down the hall to the courtroom. In Allegheny County numerous charges are reduced at the preliminary hearing before even going downtown. You charge what is appropriate and most cases are filed after consultation with the district attorney.

Maybe in exchange for the lighter charges, the officer gets to punch Capel

Police absolutely do “go out there and make up criminal offenses” each and every day, you just haven’t experienced it

So folks think he will be reinstated to the team (or has he already been reinstated)? No additional punishment? Or does the university already think he has served enough of a punishment by not being able to participate with the team in any way this whole time?

I think the issue for many is why this took so long to get resolved. The original hearing was postponed twice due to actions of the police.

Pled guilty to 2 conunts disorderly conduct and Public intox. Based on these minor offenses bring him
Back NOW

Just so we are clear, it was SMF who said Horton (and Hugley) would not be kicked off the team, whereas everyone else including my archrival BballinsiderfromPitt said they were both done.

Another W for the 🐐
