I know there is another thread about Pugh, but that one was getting long, so I wanted to post a few thoughts here.
- As we've all seen, Pugh is announcing his commitment Monday night, and it sounds like he'll be doing it on KDKA. I haven't locked down what time that will be yet, but I'm sure we'll all know tonight or tomorrow morning.
- Pugh has felt like a West Virginia lean for awhile, but I've been hearing some things lately that are pointing the other way. That is to say, they're pointing toward Pitt. Pat Narduzzi, Rob Harley and everyone else involved in Pugh's recruitment have done an impressive job in recruiting Pugh, and it's had an impact.
- The key draw for Pugh with West Virginia is the prospect of playing with Dravon Henry (albeit only for a year). Pugh is very close with Henry, and right now, that's the biggest thing - maybe the only thing - keeping WVU in it.
- We all know Pugh has academic concerns; he has even acknowledged as much. From what I've heard, that might actually be working in Pitt's favor, as it sounds like Pitt's coaches and support staff have worked with him a lot and have shown a lot of familiarity with his situation and how to work through it.
I don't know if Pitt's people would be able to get Pugh into school next year - his probability of getting eligible is still very much up in the air - but the track record and experience among the support staff is working strongly in Pitt's favor, it seems. You might remember Jaquaun Davidson's situation; in the summer before his senior year, Davidson had very slim chances of getting qualified. But Pitt worked - very hard - with him and helped him get into school for his freshman year.
That situation is helping Pitt with Pugh.
- So at this point, I'm not sure what I think Pugh will do. I've got a sneaking suspicion Pitt might keep doing what it did all weekend:
Win.
