Kante, Dembele and other recruiting notes

At South Kent basketball where Papa Kante plays, Michigan has been a no show the prior 3 open weeks to see him. They also offered a backup option several weeks ago for Kante that is going to visit Michigan. It looks like Michigan is out for Kante from the looks of things or on the outside looking in. Kante had a list of a final 5. He also has not visited Memphis yet.

I would consider it good news that Kante has visited Maryland twice now without a commit. However, Maryland has been coming very hard as I reported earlier and should be viewed as a major threat. Pitt continues to recruit as hard or harder than anyone, as expected, and is the only school to be up at South Kent every single week to see him.



Pitt has also been watching Kante's former teammate Ladji Dembele who has been good in workouts following up from solid play for the NY Rens this summer. He recently visited Depaul, will visit Seton Hall for an unofficial. Providence, VCU, Rhode Island, Depaul, Seton Hall along with Pitt have recently been up to St. Benedict's with Pitt being there multiple times in the past month.



Time has been spent recently by the staff in New York for the following 3 players: Ty-laur Johnson, Dwayne Pierce, and Elijah Moore, the latter two currently 2024's.

Kante picked up a cb to Michigan with medium confidence. Interesting, since Michigan has not been in to see him at South Kent recently unless they thought they had him already. We'll also be interesting if he revisits the other schools like he said he would. Or the backup center Michigan offered factored in to a lost spot. We'll see.

Per Jamie Shaw, we appear to be out for Kante so I was wrong above on Michigan. An additional cb was put in for Michigan by Shaw. Perhaps again the relationship was so strong that Michigan didnt have to go to his open gyms at South Kent in September. Its still strange they just offered another center backup a few weeks ago.
