Keatts was once THE hot name

Guess you and I have different definitions of guarantee— my guarantees don’t get fired halfway through their 4th year.
He wasn't fired and wouldn't have been fired under normal circumstances. He had the Gaudio thing hanging over his head and wanted out.

Keats is so good that his roster is made up of nine guys from NC, one from MD and one from VA. Nice to have basketball talent in your backyard

Will be unemployed in a month.

Lottery ticket. That's what you guys clamor for and its why the ACC sucks. They're all going for cheap lottery tickets while the SEC is hiring guarantees. And you have Willard, Pikiel, and Cooley winning at places they have no business winning at. The ACC needs to come at those 3 hard.
A lot of the SEC's "guarantees" are retreads. Barnes, Broooose, and Ben wore out their welcome at other schools. Crean is another retread. Cuonzo, Martin, and Buzz have largely been mediocre job hoppers.

I don't know how you define Oats & Musselman, but they are coaching at schools that traditionally have no problems attracting talent.

Disagree.

Barnes - always an elite recruiter but his teams underachieved but still made a Final Four and had many very good seasons

Howland - made a National Championship but didn't win enough at high enough rate at a blue blood

Martin - had KSt buzzing. Made the Elite 8. I thought he was a great hire and proceeded to wind up in the Final Four quickly but hasn't done much since

Buzz - one of the best coaches out there. Had VT winning at a historical rate

Martin - elite recruiter/cheater but terrible coach. Similar to Penny. So the SEC did miss one

Crean - closest thing to a retread

Why not make this clearer
You talk nonsense about lotto or guarantees-
But you won’t ever accurately predict anything because you only determine the hire in retrospect

I make plenty of predictions. I said Oats would have Bama in the Sweet 16 in 4 years. He did it in 2. I also said Pearl would get elite recruits at Auburn. I also said the SEC was going to pass the ACC because of their coaching hires. I know college basketball.

Yet in 3 of Crean's last 6 seasons at IU, he had single digit losses and advanced to the Sweet 16. In 2 of those, he won the Big 10 regular season title.

Buzz is pulling a Capel better than Capel this year.

Howland has been largely mediocre at Miss State.

Outside of one season, Martin has been complete garbage at SC.

There really aren't many, if any, guarantees, especially in today's game.

This thread and the topic of this thread shows just how much message board posters know about college basketball. We all have opinions and we all know next to nothing about the sport.

pretty evident based on his buyout $$

he wanted out
The board of trustees at Louisville met to decide his fate. He didn't approach them to leave over the summer when the Gaudio thing happened. i am sure he was told it was about to become difficult for him to get his buyout if he didn't agree to something.

So is that wanting out or getting fired? To me that is being smart to make sure you don't leave the party empty handed but make no mistake he was told to leave and if they didn't do that he is still coaching there.
