will be looking at 6-6 this year...they also may be looking at a new coach...heard the rumblings are starting out there.

He is 1-4 in his last 5 games. The natives are getting very restless. At a minimum their d-coordinator is gone.

He should played Kizer the whole game against Texas. They would have won. Then a less talented MSU clobbered them for most of the game. They are not playing or being coached well this season.

-The guy is a bust of a Coach. Kelly couldnt rebuild Notre Dame in 6 years, how much time does he need, hes a failure. Three 5 loss seasons, and he already has 2 losses this year. That program is certainly not trending up. Ive said for forever I dont get the hype with that school.

The sad part is besides OSU they can recruit regardless of who the coach is
Which likely brings the current staff under even more pressure. They consistently bring in top classes, yet consistently underachieve on the field.

I think the dc will be the fall guy....I can't see kelly getting canned this year

And.....they have a great shot at running the table

Miami and stanford.....and not much else

But there is no question the rumblings have begun

For a team full of 5 star players, they sure lose a lot of games to good teams and struggle with mediocre teams... Maybe this is a team that PittPoker feels more comfortable rooting for????

Let's see...ND's 5 star defensive recruits are getting harpooned on the field. Now there are rumors of coaching changes on defense.... All of a sudden, Jeter is leaning ND...

DON'T BE SHMUCKS!!!

Everybody has been saying Jeter to Pitt forever. I say he wants to add a little drama to his announcement.

I like where your head's at! Hopefully Adams rethinks his commitment.

If a recruit want to go to ND so be it. They have to live with the decision. ND is and hasn't been a top program for 20 years despite what mush mouth Lou claims. But I have no problem with 18 year old thinking ND is great for them. Of course they may want to consider the turnover of recruits after one or two years at Kelly U. I am not going to bad mouth a recruit who decides to go elsewhere.

At this point, it's becoming more obvious that Kelly is a very good head coach, but not a next level head coach.

The good news for Brian Kelly is that Notre Dame has kind of joined a conference and they get Duke, NC State, Navy, Army, Miami, Virginia Tech and Syracuse this year. Basically it's almost like they're a school playing in a division this year as they avoid some heavy hitters.

They could still very well go 9-3, get a major bowl, and the beat goes on.

High hopes which disappoint consistently.
No championships in almost 30 years...very few bowl wins as well.

They make Pitt look like overachievers....

But it is a great school and the alums are thicker than thieves.

If you are serious about getting a degree and ND offers, you would be a fool not to give it serious consideration. ND degree comes with some serious networking advantages. I would love to see the Irish go on a 200-game losing streak, but would not have hesitated to send my kids there if a scholarship was available.

They have big time personnel, problems on defense and are playing a bunch of young players there.

MSU is no longer less talented than ND. They have a lot of extremely talented players, especially at the skill positions and along the D line. We don't have a single receiver on our roster who would get reps over any of their guys.

If you watch MSU much, you'll see that the offense they run looks a whole lot like what we run schematically--the difference is they have a bunch of really talented WRs every year, a QB who can make plays, and a play caller who likes to use the whole field and all of the weapons at his disposal.

You wouldn't know a bust if Kate Upton showed up at your door naked.

As for not "getting the hype, woth that school", we can just add that to the very long list of other things you don't get. I'm sure you've never been there for any reason, let alone a football game, you don't know jack about the school itself, and you don't personally know anyone who went there.

Great campus. Great tradition. Probably the best place to catch a college football game imo. They still have fans all over the globe. However, their gridiron greatness is a thing of the past. The Irish have been mediocre for the past 20+ years.

The greatness of ND lore will never be duplicated by anyone, but it's still ND. They played in a national championship game in 2012. Went 10-3 last year with a 2 point loss to Clemson. Most years their schedule is brutal. Pitt could stand a bit of that kind of mediocrity.

That 2012 team wasn't very good. They could have easily lost to Purdue, Stanford, BYU, and of course Pitt. Bama didn't have to break a sweat in the NC game.

No elite program is going to be happy with a 3 loss season. Sure, I would celebrate and cherish a 3 loss season at Pitt at this point. At elite schools, 3 losses = disasterous.

Please explain your thinking.

IMHO, it just seems easier to have a conference with a championship set up which sends you into the NC play-offs, than to run the table every year. Plus, it gives a team an excuse to play bottom dwellers and middle of the pack programs regularly since these teams are "conference games", while few teams would play an OOC schedule of Texas, MSU, USC, and Stanford.

Germane to this discussion, which by its timing I assume relates somewhat at least to Jeter, this is the one school that potential coaching instability has the least impact on a kids thinking/feeling.

As for the playoffs discussed in this thread.....

It is only a matter of time until the playoff goes to 8 teams

At which time.....Notre dame will never join a conference and I wonder if they will even keep their arrangement with the ACC

a 9-3 ND...although likely not deserving...would have a good chance every year of getting to the final 8.......

ND is only ranked because the media wants ND story lines. The program isn't elite, it isn't a "blue blood" it's just propped up by stories of Knute Rockne and The Gipper and Rudy and people wanting it to be so. They're like Pitt, no real relevance in decades, the difference being the media wants them to be good, so they get propped up every September.

Because the religious zealots push their kids to going there, and the $$$ they generate enables them to recruit anywhere there is a church.

They get undeserved media attention based on long ago history, so it seems like they are way better than they really are.

Their recruiting really isn't all that great. One really good class in 2013. Otherwise they have been outside the top 10. I mean being #11-18 would be great for Pitt, but for Notre Dame it really is probably about as good as any solid coach should be able to do.

Kelly hasn't been great and ND isn't a top 5 program, but they are most definitely a top 20 program. They played (and got crushed, but they were there) for a national championship a few years ago. There are not 20 programs better than ND.

Kelly is a caustic SOB. If Jeter or any of these other kids want to play for that prick let them. We'll get kids who want to be here.

Wonder if Malik Zaire would have been better off at Pitt. He is lying in the bed he made.
