I'm in Iowa and 9 years ago, Iowa coach Steve Alford and the new AD at the time met right after the season to recap the frustrating year that just finished, and Alford was basically told he needed to achieve big results the next season or he was gone.

Shortly after the meeting, Alford got on the phone with his mentor, Bob Knight, and had him reach out to all his contacts for possible job openings so he could parachute out of town. He was successful--as he landed the gig at New Mexico with a week. Leaving a Big 10 job at the time for a job in the Mountain West wasn't exactly a step up.

Things did work out great for Alford at UNM before he bolted from there to UCLA, where his seat now is very hot.

Anyways, kudos to Kevin Stallings for successfully pulling a Steve Alford.
