King Rice on Horton, and Stallings

The article relates the coaches experiences and how he was given a second chance and he and his son have known Horton since 9th grade. There is no reason the article should be pulled and nothing controversial about it.
Correct. And it wasn’t pulled. Maybe there’s something wrong with the above link. Just another example of people looking for things to get mad about. Article is perfectly fine.

He'll have plenty of opportunities either here or elsewhere to get back on track. If Mr. Rice doesn't think there should be repercussions and consequences for significant errors in judgment than he is part of society's problems.

Classifying having to wait out the legal process as a 'derailment' is a very poor simile. Horton can use this time off to reflect and better himself as a person (just as it seems King Rice did) and a basketball player. The decision to counteract this 'setback', which almost all people experience in early adulthood, including those who are ultimately successful or not, is no one's but Hortons.

He will get a second chance if he takes advantage of this mishap and uses it for reflection and self-improvement. And even if he doesn't, there is always room on a roster somewhere for a shooter.

Well said.

I'd encourage you all to watch the interview. Lots of good stuff in it.

His son plays at Bucknell and played with Horton at St. Anthony's in 9th and 10th grade and he's known him since

- said he's a great kid and has a great
family

- said he cant do what he did but deserved a 2nd chance.

- went into great detail about all the chances he got

- said Stallings should have fired him for getting a DUI at Illinois State but didn't and hasn't had a drink since that night

- somehow even threw in a Pitino mention saying he's going to get 5 stars at Iona and why wouldn't you want to play for him as a 5 star. Said he almost committed to him when he was at Providence

- said he is great friends with the Capels and spoke very highly of them as you'd expect

I came away very impressed with Rice. Seemed very "real" and relatable to HS players/parents. Would be great in a living room. I even wonder if he was auditioning for the job.

He shouldn’t be commenting on another teams suspended player. He doesn’t know what happened that night. None of us do.
And please tell me what he said that was so out of line for someone that didn’t know what happened………given that he didn’t comment on any details of it or pass judgement one way or the other.

I thought his comments were pretty reasonable.

Where in the heck did he say there shouldn’t be any repercussions? Seems like he said the opposite.

He never said or implied that there should not be repercussions for what happened. And remember, in our system of justice, the accused is presumed innocent. Unfortunately, the postponement of the hearing last month leaves Horton in legal limbo - that seems to be what Rice is referring to.

I agree, I hope it was not "dirty pool", who ever pushed for the postponement knew that Horton had an impending season, of which half would be over by mid-late january.

This country has laws to address the Horton situation. I never understand why these kids have to be double punished. He is innocent until proven guilty. I would have suspended him a few games and then let him play.

Garbage. What if it turns out that after a year charges are either dropped or lowered drastically to a misdemeanor like Hugley?

that is the definition of derailing someone’s life with little basis to do so.
