Antigua...Pitt....then....Memphis..then.Kentucky as an asst...HC @ USF..tanks it

Knight..Pitt...as an asst...........and you want to make him the HC now...

Don't see how that makes sense for Pitt...no way.

I don't think too many people on this board want Knight. I think history is concerning to some people and that they fear they'll have to "settle" like they did with Dixon.

If Knight gets the job - which I find unlikely - this board will be a toxic defcon 5 meltdown with a possible few exceptions.

If the program was firing on all cylinders, like it was when Howland left, promoting the assistant would make sense, and Knight would be a very strong candidate. Since most are not happy with the current state of the program, promoting from within makes less sense, unless you just can't do any better.

A few days ago I would have agreed. Now? With the candidates named? I don't think this possibility is nearly as untenable.

It's not ideal, but I don't think too many candidates need to tell Pitt "no" before you say that Knight isn't looking too bad.

I don't disagree, but you also must consider that a lot of people, even people who wanted Dixon to just shake up his staff, wanted to fire Knight last week.

He woudn't be a terrible hire. He arguably might be the guy with the best chance of gettng us to the NCAAT next season. But he would be an unpopular hire with those who wanted changes of any kind.

Despite a low chsnce of tital fsilure, he doesn't change the attendence, which is one of Barnes' goals.

So, he'd be pretty far down the list, I'd guess.

Yeah I mean, at this point you'd be putting faith in the reports that he wants Pitt to get back to its roots in earnest, and Dixon was the one who wanted more offense and flashier recruits.

I just look at who has been most heavily tied, and say you get rejected by Drew, Enfield, and Holtmann. Next you're at, what, Lonergan? If it's Knight against Lonergan, does it really matter much at that point?

It seems inevitable that Knight will be Pitt's future coach at some point.

People who think they know a guy would be bad or good based on what some other guy did are plain out uneducuated. Do you clowns think Coach K started at Duke? Did Calhoun start at UCONN. They started in toiled bowel places and made it. You guys wouldn't hire any of them. Calipari must have started at UK!!!! Boheim came up thru the ranks and made it. So what your analogies are all worthless. Gee, most of you love Narduzzi. Gee, I guess he was head coach at MSU! Oh wait, just another coordinator. It doesn't matter who takes over. Most of you will hate and bitch endlessly because that is all you know.

What none of us know is what went on behind the scenes. Did Knight have guys ready to come here and JD wanted to go in a different direction ? Does anyone really think Jamie listened to anyone on his staff for strategy ? I don't know , but like I said somewhere I'd like to be a fly on the wall in the interview room when the question is asked of BKinght " what would you do differently ...." .it could be eye opening.

I'm with ya. I just think he's still a last resort unless Knight blows the doors off the interview.

With Barnes' bravado he kind of painted himself in a corner. I don't think he's foolish enough to hire Someone over Knight if he feels Knight is a better candidate just because another guy was a D1 coach. But because of what was said since Dixon left I would think he's gonna exhaust all options.

Yeah, for saying he wasn't trying to win a press conference, he kind of went in and tried to win the press conference.

I mean, saying he wants an uptempo and exciting style as a requirement and then targeting Sean Miller? And then apparently targeting guys like Bryce Drew and Mike Lonergan?

To me, he just said what people wanted to hear. Or, he thinks Pitt fans are stupid and if he brings in a slow-tempo coach yet pumps him up as up-tempo they'll just buy it.
