It’s a bad performance to be sure. But the lost the team stuff is a bit much. They just won 3 in a row. Despite that they’re not just not a good team.
I wouldn’t say they have lost the team when they won at UNC 4 days ago, but this performance certainly underscores that this coaching staff has never been able to get sustained consistency from one game to the next. 6 straight losing seasons as a head coach tells the story.
It is not lack of depth. There is NO depth!
Teams often lose players for long stretches due to injury or other reasons. That is not unique to Pitt.
That is why you can have 13 scholarship players.
GT was down Parham, NC St was down Bates and Gantt, FSU was down Polite, Osborne and MCLeod.
I am sure other ACC teams suffered similar impairment.
Losing players is not an acceptable explanation for failure. Failure because of lost players is on the coach.
The coach has a responsibility to have a roster in place that can deal with that rather common, eventuality.
Dan, I agree it was a bad effort, but it is not a coach that has lost the team though. You don’t win 3 in a row and then lose the team. There is a serious lack of majority though. Time and time again, this team gives a great effort and wins and then follows it up with a game of very little effort. At this point, I don’t understand how hard it is to realize that you only win when you play hard, but our team has yet to figure that out even though Capel preaches it all the time.
THERE IS NO Depth
With no depth you have down games are subs are playing the 4 and the 5 positions are guards are running around every game playing like 37 mins a game night in and night out. They looked tired and who cares about this game really it's last couple till Acc Tournament time. We've been playing well the past five games Since Horton back and we can actually run an offense we're winning games or losing by a few points the kids are probably tired hopefully they can get a nice few days of rest before the tournament kicks off and if they play like they've been they might surprise us will see.

A few weeks ago you said he wouldn't be back, has that changed or is everything still up in the air?
This Pitt team is far from talented enough to not give 110% every single game on offense and defense. Even if they give this kind of effort, they're going to get beat by most teams because they're just not talented. Gueye is the exception. But after that, it goes downhill quickly. And that includes Hugley. His effort is sporadic at best and ineffective most of the time.
1. What are they so tired from that other teams don't experience?
2. One of the worst teams in the conference comes into your building, if you don't care about beating them you should go join the "Dramatics Club" and get out of competitive sport.
3. So what is going to happen to make the ACC tourney so important to this outfit? Are they persuaded that they don't need to play hard until the tourney, then rev up the horses and blow by these teams?
4. The head coach "preaching" does not work, the head coach living it, demanding it from everyone , mostly himself, that is what works.
I am sure fatigue has something to do with it. In the second half from the 15 minute mark to the 10 minute mark, they were beating us downcourt at an unbelievable rate. I don’t know where Femi was last night - he perplexes more than anyone. I will cut Burton some slack. He has had a very good year.
John. It was so frustrating watching them get beat down the court in the second half. Part of it was probably fatigue but it was an ugly look. Ugly. Burton is entitled to a bad game but Femi is so frustrating. So talented but makes so MANY bad plays. I can’t get our failures at the end of the year lately. Bottom line - we need alot more talent. Capel has to step up!!
I don’t think recruiting has been the main problem.
I think team chemistry, team play and roster retention have been much bigger problems.
The inability to mold, control and maintain have been the biggest issues.
I would put Capel’s lack of leadership qualities next. It is very hard to lead, if you are seen as an excuse making machine, for the most part, avoiding personal responsibility for failure. That behavior does everything but gain an individual respect.
I would put inability to recruit better last. I see that as a recent development due to third season failure and acknowledged self destruction.

Why they tired well they play 5 guys all the mins basically and the subs they do use are PF or a Center and those Two are Jefferson which he plays the 4 sometimes the 3 and Collier plays the 5/4 when's the guards get any rest they have to play there asses off all game all yr with no down games if we want to win. How about this we been 2 guards short all yr. Horton came back you see how that helped, Now having Nike he would help just as much as Horton he can score and has experience that in itself is huge. Effort should never be a issue but when your just drained and tired beat and never get a break guess what sometime it comes off as lack of effort and that's not the case. What really set us back is when players starting sleeping with other teammates girl come on they all left after that. I'm not gonna kill the coach, but he does have to take some the blame. Say this just 1-2 of them stayed we would be in good shape with talent. Yes teams go thru same things we do but look at them there at the bottom also lol. I think the kids we have now after the shitty Character kids left I think the chemistry has grown with the team so i think we're on the right track now will see. HTP
