I am reposting this from another thread in response to the lack of effort, lack of recruiting, Jamie Dixon's lost it posts because I don't think it's any of those at all. James Robinson wa a 4-star from Dematha and has not progressed one iota. Poor guard play has hurt us tremendously against good teams this year. Our Panthers are pretty damn good -- except up top.

I broke down down all the losses for all the doubters:

Purdue - we are down early, but come back to lead by 1 at home, then Ryan Cline comes in and scores all 12 of his points in the 2nd half shooting pretty much uncontested 3's. He averages 3.8pts/game this season. JRob put the ball in the hoop, but Purdue's guards are not very good. Still, good game by him - he produced.
L'Ville - Damion Lee, 18pts, 4 steals, made our guard look like scared little boy. JRob, 1 point.
NC State - Cat Barber almost threw up a triple double (31pts, 7 reb, 8 assists - he had only one 3pter folks.) JRob, 9 points.
Clemson - Guard tandem Avry Holmes and Jordan Roper finished with 13 points - EACH! JRob, 8points.
UVA - Brogdon and Perrentes 21 and 14 respectively. JRob, 0 points, 0-11 shooting!
Miami - Rodriguez, Reed and McClellan drop 17, 12 and 10 on us. JRob, 8 points.

You don't get points for assists and not turning the ball over, that orange round thing has to make its way through the hoop. Not only is he not scoring, but his defense has flat out SUCKED!

The stats don't lie.

The stats do not lie, but your comparisons are incorrect for all but the NC State game.

Purdue-Cline was not JR's man, but I agree that Cline and not the seven footers are why we lost (but we got beat very badly inside as well)
L'ville- Lee was not JR's man
NC State-Cat Barber leads the ACC in scoring (I think Cat was also forced into some turnovers in that game)
Clemson- well.... JR did not outscore a tandem
UVA--as I recall JR did a good job on Brogdon when he was switched on to him in the second half
Miami--Rodriquez outplayed JR in this game (after Rodriquez went 0 for 6 in his previous game--it happens)

By the way---by definition you in fact do get points from assists

I was gonna mention the same thing. You can't get an assist unless the guy you pass it to scores obviously.

I think another thing absolutely killing us is shot selection. Artis against UVA, tie game, launches up a terrible three on the fast break. Totally killed momentum, huge swing there, he should've been benched and chewed out there.

Also, go back and watch the Purdue game. Battled back and made it close at the half. Second half though, just dumb. We probably win that game easily, but almost every single possession they chucked up beyond ridiculous shots. This team just needs to play a whole lot smarter.

JR has had some bad games, but he is not alone. IMHO, the back court collectively has let the team down in losses. I know MY & JA are your two big threats offensively, but they have to find scoring from a third position - JR has had moments, Cam Johnson, and Jones as well. But in the losses the offensive output from Pitt's guards to me has been very disappointing. As I have thought over guard play the last three to four years, who is the last guard that Pitt had on its roster that other teams feared (whether breaking them down on the dribble, making the clutch shot, or having the grit in the halfcourt to find a basket)?

By definition, you do not get points only by assists. You realize you can score points by making a 1-on-1 move, right? But I'll argue against you using your own logic then...

Barber was directly responsible for 47 (31 pts, 8 assists) of NC States points, while JRob was responsible for 19 (points+assists).
Perrentes was responsible for 20 (14&3assist), while JRob was responsible for 12 (0pts+6assists)

Quotes from the L'Ville game:
Louisville coach Rick Pitino said that looking at film, the Panthers will cause problems because of how good they are offensively. "Jamel Artis, Sheldon Jeter and Mike Young as good as any group of forwards in the country. I’ve coached against Pitt for a lot of years and without question, this is the best Pitt team I’ve seen offensively,” Pitino said. “A lot of that has to do with [Mike Young and Jamel Artis] but with Jeter in there as well."
Dixon said he expects the Cardinals to be one of the best defensive teams the Panthers have faced this season, and he’s interested to see how his team responds ...for Pitt, the bottom line will be how it handles the press. --- READING THIS, HOW DID IT TURN OUT?

Really glad you decided to create a separate post ragging on JR because there just haven't been enough of them this week/month/year! You and your ilk need to get a life.

Everyone has agreed that he isn't having a good year and hasn't progressed as we would have liked. Did we really need to add another thread to the thousand already posted on the topic?

Also YES.
Truth is he hasn't had a good 3 years.
No improvement since he came to Pitt
If ever there was a prime example of the Peter Principle its Robinson.
An the argument "He's the best we have"...... Well who's fault is that.
Anyone who has been watching over the past 3 1/2 years can see that.
Pitt has had 3 years to correct this issue and have chosen not to.
And don't cite that it's difficult to recruit good point guards that can dribble drive, score and play defense. You can see them every night on TV. So.... again I say " Who's fault is that ?
