In regards to our inability to get to the QB the last few games, one thing I've observed that hasn't come up yet is that in the last two games, both Cuse and UNC waited until later in the play clock to snap the ball. While doing this, they changed their cadence around and used a lot of hard counts.
What happened? We showed them exactly where our blitz was coming from which allowed them to reset their protection. Our linebackers in particular are not very good at disguising the blitz. Maybe some of that is on purpose so that we can scare the offensive line, but I can't tell you how many times last night our linebackers moved into position to blitz only for UNC's entire team to stop, look over to the sideline for adjustments, then get back into their cadence.
Invariably, our LBs pretend to go back to their base positions, but as the cadence drags on, they move back to the exact same spots they were in when the telegraphed the blitz. I think part of our pressure issue is that teams have figured out how to determine where we are coming from and we're not good enough by and large to beat teams one on one. Early in the year, there was no tape on us and we confused some teams (see: Iowa). Now teams have started to gameplan...just wait until later in the play clock and Pitt will show you exactly what they are doing.
