Is Lane Kiffin the best coordinator in college ball, offense or defense? His past aside, nobody recruits better, or puts the right players in the right position to help the team. The freshman QB may hurt them at some time but Kiffin knows the plays to run.

No

Absolutely not. When you have the best players on the field against every team you play, basic plays will work. Players like Amari Cooper take a receiver screen, make one guy miss, and run for a TD. They are filled with top level players at every position. With a great line, they can run what they want.

Are you all then saying they don't need Saban as long as they have these players. But then you say Franklin cant win with good players. Don't let personal opinions overtake football opinions, Kiffin is that good.

Under Saban Bama has won NCs with Jim McElwain (2), Doug Nussmeier and Kiffin as OCs.

Nussmeier went to Michigan the year after that NC and they and the worst offense they've had in years. The whole UM staff was fired after the 2014 season leading to the hiring of Harbaugh.

I do think Kiffin is a good OC, but what the others are saying is true--Bama has the personnel and the head coaching to run whatever they want against anybody. The fact that they have won 4 NCs with 3 different OCs in the past 7 years kind of says it all. Not to mention the fact that their defense is so strong their offense doesn't have to be stellar.

lastly, I wouldn't touch Kiffin with a 10 foot pole for a HC job.

Do you actually think PSU has similar quality players to Alabama?

And Saban is in a class by himself as a HC. He is absolutely THE reason Bama is the dominant program in CFB.

Let's go back to the question asked in the OP. Is he "the best"? Doubtful.

But is he good? Sure he is.

It's a rhetorical question, but would he do as well at Pitt as Canada is doing with Pitt's roster?

Canada is doing a fantastic job, but I do believe that no matter where he coaches Kiffin would bring in very good receivers and QB's. He is like Petrino, people hate him but the man can see talent.

Yeah, I would never hire him as a HC, but he is one of the best OCs in the country. I think you'd be hard pressed to name a better one.

Lane is on his 3rd different QB in 3 years at Bama.

He did a nice job under the circumstances at Tennessee & USC at HC. He could be a good head coach if he has matured some. He can't allow some of the things that happened under his watch to happen again if/when he gets another gig.

He has matured some, but he is still the Fredo to Saban's Michael Corleone. Still making cocktail waitresses two at a time.
