He does make a valid point...Maybe a tinge of sarcasm...Larry looked like he was having a blast....Wow - 23 posts. Good for you. Is this close to a record? Guess the mods are even more concerned w/ handling anti-PSU and anti-Steeler posts than anti-Pitt posts than normal!
I just ignore the PSU obsessed idiots..He does make a valid point...Maybe a tinge of sarcasm...Larry looked like he was having a blast....
if Pitt paid him as a spokesman as the University of Phoenix does one would guess he would have Pitt on his bag...I watched his entire "football life" on the NFL network and he wore a Pitt shirt the whole time during the interview portions. Great episode by the way.Too bad he had University of Phoenix on his Bag..
Who says he doesn’t wear Pitt gear? This is a thread about the Att Pebble Beach Pro Am, not the NFL Network.. thanksif Pitt paid him as the University of Phoenix does one would guess he would have Pitt on his bag...I watched his entire "football life" on the NFL network and he wore a Pitt shirt during the interview portions.
believe I was responding to your assertion about the bag..and to answer your question, I don't know, but not me as I just said so...Who says he doesn’t wear Pitt gear? This is a thread about the Att Pebble Beach Pro Am, not the NFL Network.. thanks
I would say that Larry’s Handicap did not match his play for the week. That’s the nicest way to put it....Larry is now being called out for sandbagging on his handicap .
Any golfers want to chime in
Well, you quoted my post, so you DID respond to me.believe I was responding to your assertion about the bag..and to answer your question, I don't know, but not me as I just said so...
He is an average golfer, maybe a little better than average..Larry is an all around great athlete, I didn't realize that he must be a really good golfer too.
This entire outrage is silly BS. Fitzgerald is a professional athlete who accepts paid endorsement deals, like any other celebrity. IT'S BUSINESS!
He's paid to hawk for and promote the University of Phoenix. He also finished his degree there, and since he plays for the Phoenix pro franchise, it only makes sense.
Would you be equally outraged if a NASCAR driver graduated from Pitt, but had a gazillion company logos plastered all over his car and clothes? It is how these folks make money and enhance their income.
I have never heard Larry Fitzgerald put Pitt down, on the contrary he's always been gracious and spoken quite highly of his experience at Pitt. He comes back from time to time and has been a much better ambassador for Pitt than a lot of other high profile Pitt graduates in the league.
The University of Phoenix is a for profit online diploma mill. The University of Pittsburgh is a prestigious non profit center for research and higher education. Pitt doesn't need to huckster for attention.
Agreed, but it may be a missed opportunity for Pitt. Larry certainly didn't do anything wrong. This entire outrage is silly BS. Fitzgerald is a professional athlete who accepts paid endorsement deals, like any other celebrity. IT'S BUSINESS!

Why was it a missed opportunity for Pitt?Agreed, but it may be a missed opportunity for Pitt. Larry certainly didn't do anything wrong.
Most football fans do not know where Larry Fitzgerald went to school. Most football fans don't know where Phillip Rivers went to school. Most football fans do not know where Derek Carr went to school. Most football fans do not know where 2017 #1 pick Myles Garrett went to school. Most football fans are more likely to connect Larry Fitzgerald with University of Phoenix than University of Pittsburgh. Why was it a missed opportunity for Pitt?
Other than a few alums getting out of sorts at not seeing a Pitt logo on a popular former player's bag.......do you think a lot of 4* high school DE's or OL care about this, or professional golf in general?
I imagine most football players and fans know what school Larry Fitzgerald attended. He announces it every time he's introduced in an NFL game. And I'm sure recruits see it displayed in the facility on their visits, and the coaches probably tell them as well.
Like I said, much ado about NOTHING!
Mrs. Buff: I think you and some others here are missing the bigger picture. Larry wasn't carrying a University of Phoenix bag because of his love for the online, for-profit, diploma-mill school. It's because he's a highly paid spokesman for it and was obligated to carry it. Same reason Jordan Speith has an AT&T logo on his bag.PITT the University doesn't need a hucketer ( which Larry isn't) for attention but PITT football does.
Lyke should work something out with Larry to atleast mention PITT football, somehow, once in a while, when its appropriate.
I've noticed other sports alums wearing University colors, hats, jackets, golf bags and other apparel at Pro Ams and other pro sporting events.

I imagine University of Phoenix paid for that right and good for them. If they didn't and just gave him the bag, it is a miss for Pitt. Not a big one, but it does stink to see him connected with University of Phoenix, instead of Pitt. I don't blame him or Pitt, but it is unfortunate.
Do most football fans pay attention to the University of Phoenix's football team? What conference do they play in? What bowl games did they attend? Most football fans do not know where Larry Fitzgerald went to school. Most football fans don't know where Phillip Rivers went to school. I guarantee less than 10% of Tennessee Titans fan know where Larry went to CollegeDo most football fans pay attention to the University of Phoenix's football team? What conference do they play in? What bowl games did they attend?
If football fans don't know that, they aren't fans.
Well, there you go then! Case closed.I guarantee less than 10% of Tennessee Titans fan know where Larry went to College
No, they don't. Not even remotely close. Aaron Donald is the best player in the game and I would betMost football fans know where the stars of today attended college.
It isn't that they would think he played for University of Phoenix, although I GUARANTEE there are some who do, but most NFL fans have no idea where the guys on THEIR team played college football. I bet if you asked 100 Steelers fans right out of Heinz Field, 50 of them couldn't tell you where any 3 of the Steelers players went to college.Do most football fans pay attention to the University of Phoenix's football team? What difference does this make? But............No, they don't. Not even remotely close. Aaron Donald is the best player in the game and I would bet

What difference does it make? It is the entire point. Most NFL fans have no idea where guys went to college. The vast majority have absolutely no idea where Larry Fitzgerald went to college. Far more would associate him with University of Phoenix than with Pitt. It is what it is.What difference does this make? But............
OK you've convinced me. There needs to be truth in advertising!
Next time I see the guy driving the Viagra car, I'll assume he's doing it because he can't get it up anymore.
What difference does it make in the sense of helping Pitt football? What difference does it make? It is the entire point. Most NFL fans have no idea where guys went to college. That isn't remotely similar. Good on Larry for getting paid. I wish it was Pitt on his bag, not University of Phoenix, but it is likely they paid him to carry it and thus out of Pitt's hands.
This isn’t the 80’s. The NFL is publicized 365 Days a year and information is easily accessible. Put away the clown shoes. What difference does it make? It is the entire point. The announcers say where a player attended college if they make a play, they list the name or say the name, the NFL Network is 24/7, and this new invention called the Internet provides info in no time at all.Disagree. Had this conversation in a customer meeting last November. Some of my coworkers and customers were totally shocked to know that Fitzgerald, McCoy, Donald, Lewis and Revis went to Pitt.
Jesus. Of course people can look it up. What a stupid postThis isn’t the 80’s. The NFL is publicized 365 Days a year and information is easily accessible. Put away the clown shoes.
And people don't care. I mean, you are 100% wrong. Most NFL fans do not know where their own team's players went to college. They definitely don't know where a guy drafted 14 years ago went to college. You just are wrong. This isn’t the 80’s. The NFL is publicized 365 Days a year and information is easily accessible. Put away the clown shoes.
No, but it would be nice to see and elevates an impression for some. It doesn't do much of anything in the grand scheme of things. I'm not sure what your argument is. I essentially agreed with you that it is Larry's call and I don't blame him at all for taking a check, if he can get one. If there wasn't a check involved, it was a missed opportunity. I'm sure there was. If there wasn't, his agent isn't doing his job. What difference does it make in the sense of helping Pitt football?
So, if Larry had a Pitt bag, we'd have a top ten recruiting class next year?
If it made the slightest difference to a top level recruit that Pitt was pursuing, I'm more than positive one of the Pitt coaches would point that out to the kid that Larry played for Pitt, no?
Or do you think having Larry carry a Pitt bag would boost attendance at Pitt football games?
So, in this sense, it means nothing....not a thing.
Nothing but an ego boost for Pitt alums seeing a Pitt logo on a golf bag a few times during a golf tournament that most people don't even watch.
Exactly. And most Steelers fans don't know Heyward went to OSU or Brown went to CMU or Artie Burns went to Miami or LeVeon Bell went to MSU. Most don't even know the new star on the scene Juju went to USC. Do diehard nerds (like us) know a lot? Sure. But we are a very, very small minority.Disagree. Had this conversation in a customer meeting last November. Some of my coworkers and customers were totally shocked to know that Fitzgerald, McCoy, Donald, Lewis and Revis went to Pitt.
They very rarely say those things and most fans don't watch very many games outside of their team or pay attention to that. The announcers say where a player attended college if they make a play, they list the name or say the name, the NFL Network is 24/7, and this new invention called the Internet provides info in no time at all.

It works both ways. Some of the am’s Handicaps are A lot lower than they should be be due to ego also. Then when they have to putt everything out on suspect greens, their scores will be higher than what they typically score on their home courses. Crowds, spotlight and many other things come into play in these settings. Larry’s handicap could rise during the season when he doesn’t play often. Handicaps don’t go from a 15 to a 5 in a few weeks.
Was just listening to golf channel on XM, Larry has played 30+ rds since NFL season ended. Which explains why he played above his Ghin Index.I agree. Probably has more to do with most celebrities having vanity handicaps that they cannot play to than Fitzgerald being a sandbagger.
Since his season ended or the NFL season ended?!?! Has to be the former. Otherwise, good Lord, that is a lot of golf. Heck, still a round a day if it is just from the end of his season. But I doubt Larry half asses anything. If he is going to compete, he is going to do whatever he can to win. Definitely my favorite Pitt player. Was just listening to golf channel on XM, Larry has played 30+ rds since NFL season ended. Which explains why he played above his Ghin Index.
