Last night’s UGA loss looked familiar

The crowd reaction is awesome. We traveled well for that one.....
Stepped into a little bar one day in NOLA , 1978, and the guy has a Pitt helmet above the shelves. So he tells me he wants Pitt back ASAP..... huge crowds out all night and drank totally dry every bar in town , they didn’t leave a drink in the city.

Different fanbase now. We drink Chardonnay and eat Brie. We don't travel. Not as working class, still Pitt back then was children of mostly bluecollar working class guys. Now we are essentially Ivy wannabes.

don't think the bar owner was talking about the fanbase, it was probably the players... The Pitt football team was noted for late night (actually not team violations) partying during bowls and tore it up in NOLA while their competition was all snug in their beds at 11pm....ah, the good old days...

I did hear a Marino interview discussing the players the night before in New Orleans. Lets just say that there was no curfew and those guys lived it up, even the night before. Pretty cool, especially since they won..

Very similar to how they lost another national championship... :)

the thing that I find most familiar here with Georgia is the play itself. Both games they are looking for a short pass (Pitt to get first down on 4th down) and Alabama to make up lost yardage to get nearer to field goal range and they get burned deep with a dagger to the heart. Both ballsy calls.

Fralic #79 blocks one on one at right tackle.
Both split backs stay in to block, doubling up in the middle.
On a pass play with the game on the line, we only send three receivers out. And somehow Brown still gets that open.

Football sure has changed.

Buck Belue was a great name for a Georgia QB.

At the time I thought he was going to be an NFL player. He played some minor league baseball, and then a short stint in the USFL.

always struck me as a plantation owner kind of name...so, in a way, I guess I concur.

I just thought it sounded like a great name for a fishing or hunting buddy from Georgia.

The kind of guy who doesn't getting too uptight about stuff.

HA! I remember seeing a clip with Myron Cope giving updates from the Sugar Bowl with the NC team. "It's 10pm and the Dawgs are Panthers are in their hotel rooms, the Dawgs are in for curfew and the Panthers are getting ready for night out on the town" Something like that anyway.

I also remember hearing a radio interview not all that long ago with Johnny Majors where he bragged that he never had a player break curfew on a bowl trip. The host remarked how incredible that was and asked what he did to instill that kind of discipline in his team... Majors just laughed and said he did away with curfew.
