I have to say...I never thought yesterday was going to happen. I was trying not to get too excited to only be disappointed but that felt normal even if the stadium was empty. Here are some thoughts from yesterday's game:
  • The caveat to all of the below is....each happened against a 1-AA team. I look at these games the way I look at spring training games - you can't necessarily tell a whole lot from these games but you can tell if there are signs of trouble or your team isn't good.
  • This was exactly how you want this game to go. Blow out where your team looks superior for the entirety of the day. The only clear negative was Baldanado getting hurt. Hopefully it's not too serious.
  • I love Pickett's long hair. He LOOKS like a college QB now who's name should be Cole (name a state). Ok, enough jokes. He looked great and his stat line would look better if he didn't have two players tackled at the 1 and a drop. He missed one deep ball but we really accurate the rest of the game. 277 yards in less than a half was a great start.
  • Speaking of the drop, I like how it didn't derail the drive. Too many times last year a drop lead to a punt.
  • I get that this is the first action for these guys this year but not too much to be seen from Yellen and Beville. Yellen looked absolutely lost.
  • THIS is the run game we've become used to. Last year it wasn't just that the run game didn't work but there was no surge. The first team o line looked good in both pass and run pro.
  • I think we have some athletes running some routes! Welcome DJ Turner!
  • Looking at the defensive box score really shows how it can be misleading. We only had 3 sacks but the pressure was on all game. Austin Peay only had 139 total yards and 57 of them came on one play. They ran the ball 22 times for 1 yard!
