I almost wrote this last night but I didn't have any emotional juice after. Here are some quick thoughts:
- We've become so spoiled with how good Kenny has been that his "off" night was 346 and 3 TDs. The line really struggled at times last night but hopefully we get it together in 10 days.
- I don't for the life of me know why we don't always sneak it on 4th and 1. On the first drive, you need something better than whatever that play call was. I thought the play calling was terrible in the second half. We've closed down games in the 4 minute at least 3 times this year and not a single hand off.
- UNC's play calling stunk too. I know sacks count as runs but when they look at the box score this morning and see Howell had 9 yards per throw but ran 38 times for 88 yards, they will realize they should have stopped running. Our defense is built to stop the run, really doesn't make sense.
- All name team hall of famer - Storm Duck.
- I know I touched on the run game already but how Izzy and Hammond get a total of 14 carries in a game where we had a double digit lead for most of it is beyond frustrating. I thought Izzy made some bad reads on runs but he still averaged over 5 yards per carry.
- Addison is awesome. In a game where ONLY had 84 yards receiving, he had another 50 yards in punt returns. Best Krull game yet. He's had a lot of drops but he's worth his weight in gold on that catch.
- I still cannot believe UNC had the ball first and goal on the with a minute left and down 3 and only got an FG.
- Defense won this game for us. The d line either got tired or figured out in the second half but they played like a team on fire in the first half. I thought Dennis, Haba, John Morgan, Hallet, and Devonshire all played well (although when he started running the pick back I was yelling get down!). I'm going to be watching the UVA/ND game this weekend because we'll need a good effort against Armstrong if he's full strength. I'm still not quite sure why Petrishen is on the field in passing situations but Cam Bright seems to have stepped up in Davis's absence.
- Scarton - I mean, we knew he wasn't going to make 95% of his field goals all year. He's still making 80% and he's good not great.
- We are continuing to hit on a lot of firsts too. First Narduzzi team to go 8-2, highest CFB ranking, first time 8-2 since 2009, and what will be a chance for our first 10 win season since 2009. I know I'm tempting the sports g-ds by even mentioning this, but we have a chance to still go 12-2. We haven't won 11 games since 1981. We've won 12 games once ever.
