I'm sure most people feel the same way I do. Play these games in week 1. The team seemed to sleepwalk through most of the game but it was nice to watch it stress free. Some thoughts from the game:
- I'm not sure why we threw so many WR screens yesterday. My guess is they didn't want to put the ball into windows or Slovis in position to take a hit.
- Izzy is a true game breaker. He's almost at his total from last year and he's over 1,200 for his career now. Also, can we now please take him off of kick return duties? I ask this every week but you're asking for him to get hurt.
- I thought the O line was just ok yesterday as you would hope to see gaping holes against a 1-AA team.
- I love Vincent Davis. He's criminally under appreciated here. For someone who's never really been the full time back, he's got a chance at 2k yards for his career.
- I love Carter in the fullback dive/short yardage role.
- I really hope Bart isn't hurt bad but Karter Johnson looked fantastic on that catch and run.
- I thought Means was better today but he seems to be wildly unathletic. His arms and legs just seem to be constantly going in different directions. He reminds me of a guy we had here a few years ago that had a similar body type but I can't remember his name for the life of me.
- With the exception of what seemed to be some bad PI calls, I thought the defense was fine, not great. The line doesn't have great depth, at least yet. I thought Kancey, Dennis, Devonshire, Johnson, Hallet, and Woods were all pretty good. One recruit I loved because of his production was FitzSimmons. That kid had a man's sack yesterday and I think we are going to see some more from him this year in the rotation.
- Love having Devonshire on the punt return. He reads his blocks like a running back and can really accelerate through the smallest hole.
- Unfortunately, style points matter and I think it will be held against us that the ACC is so bad this year and that we gave up 24 to a 1-AA team. I was personally hoping for something like 42-7.
- We should demolish GT next week. That team really isn't good.
