There is one more transfer period. Addison left during that period and played for usc same year

Yeah, I think Jan 2nd is only the deadline if you want to enroll in the Spring semester... and exceptions are made for the teams that are still playing (I think you get like 5 days after your final game).

But, like you said, you can declare in that second transfer portal window in April and still be eligible for the Fall semester.

And I think grad transfers can declare any time and still be eligible (as long as they comply with the school's enrollment deadlines), but I could be wrong on that.
