Leadership of PN

Crazy year; I honestly thought 3-9 after UCF game. Someone mentioned that the players win despite of the bizarre coaching decisions that are made. I still believe that despite the recent successes.

I’ll admit. Duzz lost me after the NC game which looks worse with time

But the way the team recovered has been incredibly encouraging

The opportunity is there for the taking. They should be favored in each remaining game. An 8 win season and coastal champions would really be a fine season.

“Even when starting the season 3-4, he didn’t lose the room. Players listen, players care.”

“You don’t emerge from the gauntlet with a 3-1 record without good leadership in the locker room.”

But I thought the locker room was bad?

The locker room was in chaos.

Didn't you read what all the experts on this board posted?

Look, I don't think coach Narduzzi is the 2nd coming of Vince Lombardi, he has his coaching gaffs, but even when they were in a bad spot I still had hope.

I love the guy's enthusiasm, and as bad as some experts on this board claim, he is bringing in some decent talent.

HOPEFULLY if we can finish the next 3 games off successfully and then I think you will see the recruiting start to pick up next year. Hopefully he can get Pickett a couple weapons and see where this offense can go

Coaching is more than game day calls--especially the ones you believe are dumb (because you as a fan are convinced you know more than an experienced coach). Mark Rich at Miami makes a good argument for why coaching does matter and matters a lot. IMHO as a fan--If Narduzzi had Miami's talent level on the roster we would very likely be at least a couple of games better than our current 5-4 and 4-1.

Yep after real calamities w State College, UCF and Carolina this thing looked like a disaster.....

The Duzz May get it done wrt his prediction about going to Charlotte....the recruiting and prospects after he loses a load of players leave a lot of questions on the table.

But considering Pitt is still staggering from Parachute Smiley’s Mother Of All F’ups....starting to give this guy some props.

Good and fair article by Jerry.

I hope if Pitt makes it or Charlotte that the media (and fans) who roasted Duzz for making the comment early in season publicly produce a new culpa.

As bad as the beatings were to PSU and UCF, and negativity of media and boards, HCPN never flinched, stayed positive, and emphasized the importance of ACC play. Give him credit for maintaining team motivation, and focus, and finding a team ID, which is power football. The OOC schedule was brutal, but had a chance to win at ND, and beat Syr, Duke, and Va, who had a combined record of 15-5 going into game. Maybe the OOC schedule, despite hurting the record, toughened the team up, and prepared them for now. Again, kudos to the Duzz and staff. Hope Pitt can get this Coastal!

I was a huge Duzz fan initially, this season made me waver. I am not saying I am back to being a fan of his again, but I am starting to come around again. He has adapted his scheme a little to help change the trajectory of this season. I wish he would make more adjustments with both personnel and scheme but slowly he is showing that he is getting it. I hope he succeeds because he does seem like the kind of guy that Pitt needs.

Not sure why it took getting smoked on defense for half a season for him to start bringing pressure-
But it’s about time.
Now let’s see if the defense can put two games together.
After the nd performance came the duke debacle.

Narduzzi gets credit from me for holding the team and season together. I really thought after UNC we were looking at 3-9, and I don’t think it was unfair to think that.

The defense was pretty bad against cuse and duke .
And frankly our offense is not exactly built to withstand shootouts.

Plenty of question marks.
Happy we won a couple coin toss games.

Yes many of us had doubts early in the season and especially after UNC. BUT the key is PN never had doubt in himself or his team. Sure he has flaws like most coaches not named Saban. But there are only a few elite coaches in college FB, there are some real bad ones and a bunch that are on the same level. IMO PN can motivate and outwork most coaches on his level. He has proven he can win tough games (yes lost a few head scratchers) and big games against more talented teams.

We all want him to recruit better but it’s not easy to recruit to Pitt if we are honest. Most kids aren’t looking at academics. They want to play in front of a bunch of fans (never will happen here). They want to be treated like Gods like they do at schools like PSU etc. For the past 40 or so years we have rarely had highly rated classes (Golden Panthers are not coming back).

If he does bad next year some ppl will call for his head again. But none of the small group of elite coaches are coming to Pitt. We need stability and hopefully he can build upon what we have seen lately.

We are the only team in the nation to play 5 top 25 teams. Many many coaches would not be able to hold a team together after some of the losses we had this year.

Spot on. Well said

We were under the false assumption Pickett was the next Dan Marino.

We ran for 200 yards in the first half against penn started this year... and sure our punter gave the game away, but we went to a passing attack I guess to mix to up. I think if that game is this week we just pound them to death and win the game.

Anyways, I’ve always said the guy is a good leader and head coach. Perfect? No. Good? Absolutely.

With the wet weather I finally got a Saturday off and got to go to the Duke game. What impressed me most was the fact that Pitt's receivers could not get open, even in the Boot passes, all day long everyone covered, for the most part. If Watson is going to keep his job, which I suppose he is , Pitt needs to bring in a passing coordinator who can recruit and help infuse some excitement and talent into that passing game.

Still am shocked that we won the last two games. One with hardly any defense; the other with no passing game...

I’m a smiling Pitt fan, but I’d sure like to see a complete game — actually 3 complete games...

Go Pitt!
Watching tons of CFB....believe it or not which I wouldn’t having not seen it...

But there is crazy shit happening to lots of teams. Maybe Pitt is w the lead Pack; although can assure you fans all over the country have the same thoughts after games.

WTF!!!!!!

I am still very leery of HCPN but he's doing a great job with what he has this year. I still don't think our actual team is very talented but he's coaching them up and leading the ship. Hats off to him getting us to where we need to be.
