I don’t think it’s impossible for them to compete in the ACC down the road. This was the first conference game with a new coach using an overhauled roster against a perennial top tier team. Shoot good, look good. Shoot bad,.... Well they didn’t look good. I really don’t care what has happened in the past that has been bad - coaches, streaks, transfers. The program is moving forward. If the three freshmen are the standard, I think the future will be bright.

I will be concerned about the lack of recruits if it still exists when classes begin next September. In the meantime, I am pleased that Capel has not settled for the kind of underwhelming recruits that were typical of the last coach's efforts.

Knowing you are going to struggle and going through the struggle are 2 different things. The players, coaches, and fans have to be patient and keep their resolve. Also, the 2019 recruiting class is still being recruited. Best case scenario is the freshman stay motivated, work on their weaknesses, return as sophomores and are joined by a solid new recruiting class.

I will be concerned about the lack of recruits if it still exists when classes begin next September. In the meantime, I am pleased that Capel has not settled for the kind of underwhelming recruits that were typical of the last coach's efforts.

Don’t forget the fact their are no seniors or 5 yr guys on the roster from the Dixon era .

You think a Pitt team lead by the freshman versions of Cam Johnson , Ryan Luther or D Wilson could compete In the ACC !

Last yr people couldn’t grasp the difficulty of winning conference games with a freshman centric team and if you take Carr , Stewart and Brown or Stevenson and compare them to this yrs three freshman there’s really no contest . Unfortunately X , Toney , and McGowens aren’t comparable to Dukes three freshman and unless you can recruit at that level expecting a freshman centric team to compete in the ACC is unrealistic .

Pitt will win a few ACC games this yr , it just won’t be against teams like UNC or Duke .

JC current relationships with recruits will improve Pitts recruiting results down the road . This yr class ( 19 ) the guys he was working on the last few yrs are Duke level guys . It’s too early to expect these kind of kids to choose JC and Pitt .

JC will add more pieces of the puzzle with grad transfers , transfers and guys who reclassify for next
season . The 20 class is when we’ll see how successful he can can go toe to toe with better programs for highly rated freshman recruits . He’ll do fine just give him time !

I buy everything you say except for your remark about the 2020 class. With many scholarships to fill, Capel better start finding some very good but undervalued bigs. He managed to do that with Xaiver Johnson and needs to do it with a couple of bigs. At an ACC Pitt, scouting and talent evaluation needs to be a priority. We will never be a school tHat merely selects players.

While I agree with your assessment, I also believe that X is an exceptional
freshman playing way beyond his years and his reputation coming in to
Pitt. I also believe even though X wasn't recruited by the Dukes and UNC's
of the world, he would be in the rotation if he were at UNC this year.
I have a friend who I've mentioned on here before; he owns a rating service
that sells their h.s. player assessments to college coaches. I asked him why
Xavier was only a 3 star coming out of h.s. His response.......we knew he was
good and played in a tough league. He's playing better than many of us thought.
Sometimes a 3 star and a 4 star are the same with some players. You can't
always project how they'll do in college.
Anyway, that's from a guy who does this for a living. Take it for what it's worth.

I also believe we should have used the last scholarship for this season. Very hard to believe we could not secure a player at even 6-6 or 6-7 that could be physical, rebound and defend.

11/13 Programs in ACC have Atleast 1 Four Star Recruit for 2019.. Pitt and B.C. don’t, and they have 3 Three Stars in the Fold.. I’m sure they are all better programs and Coaches.. you guys are hilarious

Yeah not sure what all the angst is about. Until we know who they have and how well the play at this level it’s all wasted energy. No one ever thought X would be a high end player other than steel
