The Ides of March are upon us.
Pitt will either win and be a virtual lock, or lose and have us all nervous until Sunday afternoon.
Here's the non-Pitt games today that matter, should Pitt not win today.
Mississippi State vs Tennessee - 1:00pm, ESPN
- Could really use a Tennessee ass-whuppin' of the Bulldogs. A nice 30+ point win would be great. Go Vols!
Wisconsin vs Northwestern - 2:30pm, BTN
- While most bracketologists have Northwestern in, a closer look at their resume and metrics shows a team that is strikingly similar to Pitt. Both teams' achilles heel is their 300+ rated non-conference schedule. The teams have identical records both in and out of conference. Both have one awful home loss. Pitt has a better NET (40 vs 52) and more road wins (7 vs 4) and both teams have 4 Q1 wins and 5 Q2 wins. I frankly can't see how Northwestern is ahead of Pitt on any brackets, and I think the committee - if they take a fresh look - will see the same. So... Go Badgers!
St. John's vs UConn - 5:30pm, Fox
- Could really use a UConn ass-whuppin' of the Red Storm. A nice 30+ point win would be great. Go Huskies!
Ohio State vs Illinois - 6:30pm, BTN
- Let's just stop tOSU train now before it goes any further. Don't need a potential bid-stealer to advance. Go Illini!
Texas A&M vs Kentucky, 7:00pm, SECN
- Could really use a Kentucky ass-whuppin' of the Aggies. A nice 30+ point win would be great. Go Wildcats!
Providence vs Marquette, 8:00pm, FS1
- We need Marquette to step up without one of their best players. Go Golden Eagles!
Indiana vs Nebraska, 9:00pm, BTN
- Nebraska, like Northwestern, has a resume and metrics that looks an AWFUL lot like Pitt's. Looking closely, I can't see how Nebraska is a lock and Pitt isn't. Go Hoosiers!
NC State vs Virginia, 9:30pm, ESPN
- If Pitt wins, we want NCSU to win. If Pitt loses, we want NCSU to lose - so they don't become a potential bid-stealer. So we won't know our rooting interest until after the Pitt game.
Colorado vs Washington State, 10:30pm, FS1
- Could really use a WSU ass-whuppin' of the Buffaloes. A nice 30+ point win would be great. Go Cougars!
Colorado State vs New Mexico, Midnight, No TV
- Could really use a CSU ass-whuppin' of the Lobos. A nice 30+ point win would be great. Go Rams!
