No...the Colorado executives are the idiots.Deion is an idiot.
Heisman winner number retirement is a given, why wait?Deion is an idiot.
i dont think kordell did enough to get his number retired but he was sure a heck of alot better than sanders was for the buffs. Dorien hagan was better, i'd almost put Koy Detmer as a better college qb at colorado than sanders.
And to think all that production was wasted. Pretty much nothing to show for it.Sanders: 71.8%, 7364 yards, 64 tds, 13 ints, 160.4 rating
Stewart: 58.1%, 6481 yards, 33td, 19 ints, 136.5 rating, 1289 rushing yards at 4.3 ypa
Hagan: 50.2%, 3801 yards, 27 tds, 19 ints, 137.6 rating, 2007 rushing yards at 4.1 ypa
Detmer: 58.9%, 5390 yards, 40 tds, 45 ints, 148.9 rating
And to think all that production was wasted. Pretty much nothing to show for it.
Deion even said it...in some kind of self damaging Freudian slip.if Shadeur isnt Deion's son, this retiring his number isnt even a discussion..
Those numbers are skewed due to the fact that the Sanders offense was specifically based and targeted on him throwing 40-50 times a game.Sanders: 71.8%, 7364 yards, 64 tds, 13 ints, 160.4 rating

No sure how was that the answer to my question?
I’m not following your point. Of course Hagan wouldn’t have been throwing it 40-50 times…they were an option running team. CU wasn’t even thinking about running a balanced offense…that’s why the first OC got demoted and left.Well sure, offenses are different now. But could you imagine someone as bad at throwing the football as Hagan was throwing the ball 40-50 times a game? It would have completely gone away from what he was actually good at as a quarterback.

We don’t know that with regards to Kordell and Detmer - put them in that type of offense and see what they can do.YOU pointed out his numbers are what they are because he threw the ball a lot. I pointed out that having some of the other guys on the list try to throw the ball that many times would have been a disaster. Just as having Sanders try to run the option would have been.
It's not a bad point on his resume that he was so good at throwing the ball that his team threw the ball a lot.
Kind of has an Aaron Donald feel to it.And to think all that production was wasted. Pretty much nothing to show for it.
I wish Kordell was on the draft board this year. He’d be a slam dunk top 10 pick. Although guaranteed to be gone before the Steelers pick. Twice the player deion jr is.i dont think kordell did enough to get his number retired but he was sure a heck of alot better than sanders was for the buffs. I’m taking into consideration this age of passing offenses.I think college Kordell wouldn't have done it. Heck, even years later in the NFL he wasn't that kind of QB. But maybe Detmer could have. He and Sanders are much more alike (skill set-wise) than Sanders and Stewart or Hagan.
That doesn't mean that any of them were bad quarterbacks. Just that their strengths were different.
Well he did beat Michigan with a 64 yard TD pass in the Big House.Kordell Stewart couldn’t hit the broad side of the barn id he was 10’ away.

Arm strength and accuracy are two very different things. I really think you guys forget how truly off target his passes were.Well he did beat Michigan with a 64 yard TD pass in the Big House.
Tell me why anyone should care about what Colorado does ?Deion is an idiot.
I'm not going to defend Kordell's accuracy issues because I don't think anyone would die on that hill. However, everyone's accuracy back then was not as good as it is now.Arm strength and accuracy are two very different things. I really think you guys forget how truly off target his passes were.
It absolutely was a real issue. Him not staying at wr was a travesty. He would have been a great one.
I think a lot of people forget that the "bump and run", in its purest form, hung around college football for a long time. Anything approaching 60% completion percentage was really good in that era.I'm not going to defend Kordell's accuracy issues because I don't think anyone would die on that hill. However, everyone's accuracy back then was not as good as it is now.
Case in point - Marino finished his career completing less then 60% of his passes. Kordell completed 56%.. I will argue that Dan is the greatest passer of the football of all time. No, I'm not comparing Kordell to Dan. I'm comparing that era of passing and all it's complexities compared to today's era. This era for the past 20 years has had extremely average talented passers put up gaudy #'s because due to scheme, personnel, and rules it is much easier to throw the ball. Kordell likely would have been dramatically better passing the football in this era.
By Colorado’s recent standards it was a great season. It was only their second winning season in the past 19 seasons. And to think all that production was wasted. Pretty much nothing to show for it.
Agree. Because Colorado sucks. They just didn't suck as bad as usual so they're retiring numbers.By Colorado’s recent standards it was a great season. It was only their second winning season in the past 19 seasons.

I agree.
Kordell avg 23 attempts during his career. Shadeur averaged 37 attempts.
The biggest reason we see higher completion %'s today are due to the fact most OC's see the short pass as an extension of the run game. QB's from that era threw the ball downfield because they had power downhill running attacks and/or were option QB's. Hence, they had lower completion %'s..
Great points on both!I'm not going to defend Kordell's accuracy issues because I don't think anyone would die on that hill. However, everyone's accuracy back then was not as good as it is now.
