Lon Kruger

Retiring - Good Coach
You might see some OU players in the portal.
The other 300 or so D1 teams might see the same thing.

Interesting about Kruger retiring. He's not that old. You're right, he is a good coach--one of those guys who succeeds everywhere he goes.

I'd rather have him at Pitt than anyone on his team. I'm sure he'll find his way to ESPN.

Going to live in Vegas closer to his son and will help him out.

He's 68. Not ancient but definitely at retirement age.

I read all the time on here about people that have inside information, for once I had some. Lon Kruger and I have the same real estate agent and I knew a few weeks ago that he had bought a house near my area. I figured it meant his time in Oklahoma was coming to a close.

Not only is he a really good basketball coach but he’s a really nice genuine guy as well. I only met him once but know multiple people that know him well and to a person they all speak highly of him. One of the nice guys in the business.

If it was me I wouldn’t have hired his son at UNLV, but I see why they did. Will be rooting for him.

he just accpeted a "special assistant" job on his sons staff. i have lived in lv for 18 years and follow the unlv program. when he left it was to me the worst thing that happened to unlv since tark leaving. he put together some discipilined strong teams.

not impressed with hiring his son but adding dad to the staff gives that move legs.

Comparable to Pitt hiring Brandin Knight I guess. If it’s really true that they were considering Steve Lavin and Reggie Theus I will gladly give Kevin Kruger a chance over those guys.

Have you beat by a year, we moved here 19 years ago.

That UNLV president won't hire anyone shady since she took over. The names of dud coaches since Kruger left is pretty bad. The school seemed to have wanted to wash the stink away after Tark left and has made some bad choices sans Kruger. Even when he was there and doing well the letters UNLV just didn't ring like it once did.

The school almost had Cronin and Beard, but even the two didn't feel comfortable with the job.

Lon Kruger is as good as it gets in offensive Xs and Os. Nobody better on offensive side. A few are equal. Wish him well and huge loss for the Sooners. They’ll hire ORU coach. Beard will go to Texas and Abilene coach goes to Lubbock.

I’m friends with an OU fan, and he was telling me how the fanbase was saying they don’t want to make another mistake like they did hiring Capel. Ouch (not to rehash the ad nauseam Capel debates, I haven’t given up on him here yet).

Anyway he mentioned some mid major coaches like the North Texas coach as possibilities, and also said Mark Turgeon and Dana Altman... I don’t know about that.

They won’t hire Turgeon. Altman would make a ton of sense and he’s a great coach. Would suck for fans of other XII schools.
