I will always watch Pitt play. They captured me at the age of 9 years old. My fond memories of Fitz, Revis, Palko, HB Blades, Ray Graham, Shady, Pistol Pete, Rod with Walt and the other Pitt greats. So no matter what I say, you can count on me tuning in Saturday afternoons. However, this board allows me to vent from time to time and one of those is now.

#1. I like Narduzzi. I think that his staff has improved each year he has been here (good coaches have been hired away), which has been stressful to QB and offensive recruiting IMO. The roster has gotten more talented (more by depth than high end talent) since he has started. Also he knows what he is doing defensively. I enjoy watching the aggressive style of play and press coverage, which we have gotten significantly better at (guys who got bad reviews at Pitt are playing well in the NFL, Pitts, Whitehead, Maddox so the coaching is working).

#2. The defense last night vs UVA. Damn I am excited about them. They lost their best player before the season and come out against a great QB and play well. As I was watching the game I pointed out multiple times how many time they "got to" Perkins or how many times UVA got bailed out by a freak play or catch. The defensive front is extremely effective and I thought the secondary looked great other than a few PI calls. Florida transfer is a player too.
***However, the defense can not be on the field for 4 quarters straight and given the depth they played well given the circumstances.

#3. PICKETT. Unlike 99.9% of the fan base I feel that he can be "serviceable". AGAIN I did NOT say great. For 2 years now I have heard coaches and commentators say how they are hesitant to run him, because of injury risk. This is Pitt's biggest offensive mistake in HCPN tenure. UNC has the perfect offense for KP skill set with a ton of read option, quick passes, and RPO play (True freshman Howell looked great in this system - I view KP similar to Howell in style of play/build). KP is not going to win us games throwing it 50 times a game.

#4. Wipple. People are pretty pissed right now with him not running the football and I agree completely. I would have rather watched 50 hand offs (especially to Carter and Ffrench if our RB avg 2/3 yards per carry) than 50 plays for Kenny Pickett on the run. However, unlike Watson this offense had A LOT of open receivers and more importantly open receivers down field. My great hope is that this is offense comes together and gets better each game. Wipple said he would bring passing with down field attempts. Credit to him for living up to his word. I'm actually intrigued to see how things play out over the course of the season because lots of guys touched the ball in space and as bad as KP played the offense had quite a few drops.
*** If Wipple is going to stick to his plan I would really like to try other QB's. KP strengths are on the move, out of the pocket, zone read/option. NOT standing tall in the pocket like Mannings and making throws.
***Personally I think that Matt Canada was the best fit for HCPN's coaching style. Run oriented, get people in space without throwing. Cover talent deficiencies with motions. Not saying he is the best just saying I think he fits best.

#4. Going forward I personally hope to see a lot more run and A LOT more Matthews and Ffrench less Mack. The defense is good enough to win a lot of games.

Good read/level headed

Enjoyed your analysis and take...

Point#4 is very accurate.......This offense will work providing
Nard recruits the proper qb.

College football more than anything is driven by good QBs
. If you got one, can win big..,jmho

Agree on all but most on #3. Pickett at his best when running. It gets him into the game and thinking, reading coverage less. He passes better when his own running mixed in.

Good evaluation by OP. In my opinion it wasn’t the best playcalling to open with 6 straight throws with an amped QB. A smooth, balanced initial first 10 plays may have improved Pickett’s confidence. The defense this year will be fun to watch. They appear to be aggressive and swarm to the ball. It’ll definitely be a work in progress on offense though.

You will eventually be broken. Resistance is futile. Someday, even you will be memorialized by an empty yellow seat on the N. Shore on Saturdays. Many a fan better than you has fallen away.

Wrong. Pitt football is entertainment and fun not my character/personality makeup. If it is part of your emotional make up I would say it's time to get out of the 412 area code or at least watch TV outside of channel 2, 4, and 11. You have to enjoy the players that come through for what they are at that time. If you do, you'll see the positives in them more than the failures. Pitt fans think they are outliers when in reality most college football programs struggle (off and on or for long stretches.

I think you are wrong. Unless is 6-6 is "good" to you, and it might be.

UVA is replaced their entire OL and UVA's QB is a very limited QB. What he can do, he does well. But I said before the game, this is an offense we should be able to stop. Even if you imagine it at its best, it's a short yardage, stay ahead of the sticks offense. Which is what the aggressive, overload the box style of play Narduzzi wants is designed to dominate.
I wouldn't say we dominated it either, but we had the level of success one should expect. Saying ,"Wow, this defense is going to be good" based on UVA is too optimistic.

Lets see what happens when we play teams that have actual athletes all over the field and we have to respect their ability to stretch the field and make plays.
