By the way it was around this time, 2007, that this program was the focus of an article online entitled "Doing less with more" in talking about programs that perennially disappoint. In fact this program was named the most disappointing. And in second place in that article was, well your Pitt Panthers. Who is this program? Why Sparty of course. At this point they hired Mark D'Antonio. Oh the 10 win season above was Nick Saban's catapult into the big time.
So they hire D'Antonio and go:

Would anyone sign up for this? Saban showed you can win at a Mich State (or a Pitt). But also showed how coaching departures and hires do not help a program,. Look at what D'Antonio has done. He has turned Mich State into well, Michigan. I am not saying this is what Narduzzi can do for Pitt, but I had to draw the amazing paralle because we have been essentially Michigan State before D'Antonio. In fact, you can argue we were better.
Just thought this was interesting. And that being a top 10 program is not impossible.
