Some box score observations from the Duke win..

Jamel Artis was 6/10 from the field after going 3/13 last game. He led us in scoring with 17 points.

Ryan Luther and Sheldon Jeter each played 24 minutes. Mike young played 17 minutes.

6 Panthers made 3-pointers. Last game only 2 Panthers scored from beyond the arc.

Damon Wilson, Cam Johnson, Sterling Smith played a combined 15 minutes.

Ryan Luther was 4/5 from the field, Sheldon Jeter was 5/8. Both were 1/1 from 3.

Pitt had 14 turnovers. Duke had 13.

Pitt had 39 rebounds. Duke had 20.

Duke shot 32 threes and made only 11 of them. Pitt shot 20 and made 8.

The two starting centers in this game combined to play 42 minutes, have 1 shot attempt and score 2 points.

Chris Jones led all rebounders with 8. Last game he had only 1.

I think 4 of Chris's rebounds came on one play. It was bad he couldn't finish, but you had to love the grit and determination.

Wasn't there a Pitt player in the past who was accused of purposely missing putbacks to pad his rebounding stats? I can't remember who it was.

Aaron had a serious case of the yips in his junior year. He was better in his senior year. But for a while there, every bunny layup was an absolute adventure.

Jerome Lane.........dude would get 3-4 rebounds per trip down the court from his own misses

I wouldn't get on Jones (or Jeter) too much for missing the shots in that sequence. We had a great look at that from our seats and they could have called a foul on literally every shot attempt. The non-call on Jeter on the last one was particularly egregious, because he got absolutely hammered.

There was contact on nearly all of the putback chances, but the problem for all the Panthers trying was that very little of the contact was to arms and hands. But yes, there was plenty of body contact, especially on the last one for Jeter as you commented.

Jeter didn't just get body contact, he got contact on the arms and hit in the head too. Possibly the worst non-call of the game. Jones got hit in the head at least once as well.

I watched the replay of the sequence a couple of times, and really didn't see the contact on the arms that you are describing. Regardless, I did think there should have been a foul called.

Say what you want but he parlayed his abilities to a lengthy NBA paycheck. Hard work paid off for him !

Yeah, I was kind of saying that for a while Aaron was struggling to hit easy shots (read: layups) as a junior. That is what I wanted to say.

Pretty sure it's widely understood that his hard work and the benefit of being 7 feet tall got him a job in the NBA. Pretty sure I have a great appreciation for Aaron and what he did here as a player.

I thought it was Lane. I can't imagine Gray ever missing shots on purpose to pad his rebound stats, no matter how lopsided the game may have been.
