Looking for Akron pregame ideas; coming in for the game.

Here's a (dated) link for some of their tailgate policies and it includes a map of their lots. I have never been, but will be going this weekend. Based on a few sites, it looks like Akron die hards tailgate in Lot 9. I don't know if it's presold like Pitt or if you can just go. We plan on leaving Pittsburgh around Noon and hopefully stumbling across a lot with Pitt fans to tailgate with. If anyone is going and has more info, it wouldbe great to meet up or get a better idea about how their tailgating situation works.

With rain in the forecast for most of the pregame hours, I am thinking we will park on the west side of campus, watch some games and eat at what looks like a decent selection of bars around the baseball stadium there, then walk across campus for the game. Hoping the rain clears out a little earlier than what is forecast.

Jim Chaney should Run designed Plays for QB Voytik Sweeps, Bootlegs, and Option, throw to Boyd, Holtz, and Orndoff, and Open Up Holes with Counter Plays for Ollison, James, and Hall under a well Executed Game Plan!

On Defense continue the improvements of Blitzing and Pressure on the Akron QB, and better coverage's with speed and hitting pain by the Backfield with Linebackers tacking in the backfield or on the line of scrimmage!

Special Teams add in another 14 points and payback the Zips what they did to Pitt last year with a big Pitt Win!

New Coach In Town Named Narduzzi get use to it!

I'm going to the Alumni Tailgate. But I think the deadline passed to sign up for that. There isn't much right around the stadium. There are some bars on Exchange Street which isn't that far of a walk. If you want to drive somewhere (and take the risk of not finding parking), there is a bunch of stuff in the Chapel Hill area of Akron (about 3 miles north on Route 8 from the stadium). There is a pretty decent sports bar (it is a chain) called the Brick House there along with the usual chain type restaurants.

Am I reading Akron's site correctly.... that you can't have open containers in the tailgate lots?
-In the past i new that a lot of schools in ohio didn't allow open containers, but i thought the laws changed on that?

It's an Ohio law. Based on my tailgating experiences in Cleveland, as long as you put it in a cup and don't act like a jerk, cops leave you alone. Sort of like here, except they enforce it more. I doubt you can drink a beer on your walk to the stadium. In Cleveland, they made you dump it at a certain point.

As for the law itself, in cities of "more than 35,000 people" they can designate areas where it is legal. If they have, Akron hasn't updated their policies, or their site.
