Lost in the shuffle yesterday, did Duke really lose to WF at home?

That game could be the difference in Wake getting to a bowl game. It might also end up keeping Duke out of a bowl game.

Duke was less than a TD favorite in the game, and really miss Sirk at QB.

Wake was coming off a less than stellar 7-3 win against Tulane in the opener, although it must be said that Tulane appears to be much improved under their new coach.

So Wake only needs 4 more wins to be bowl eligible. Can they find 4 more wins? I think Duke plays Northwestern next week. Not sure. The loser of that game is in deep guano

Yes, because no program with a down season hasn't abandoned their commitment to winning.

CP, everyone knows that if there is 1 school in this country that is a true Basketball school it is Duke. We as Pitt fans should know more than anyone that the administration needs to be supportive of what you do. Any additional money at that school is going to support basketball not football. The stadium was at Duke was voted 1 of the worst in FBS before the season (in all fairness I never been there to rate it myself). My opinion is that Duke caught lighting in a bottle the past few years in football, and not it is back to reality for them. I could be wrong, we will find out.

I'll wait until Duke suffers back to back losing seasons. No reason to stick a fork in 'em just yet.

You got me there CP, it is nice to see them putting money into the program. I still don't see Duke having continuing football success like they have the past 3 years.

That is a different question. It's all about finding the right coach. You can plow enough money into your program to buy god a barn, but still end up like Texas or PSU. Cutliffe is a good coach but up there in age.

No matter how much money they throw at Wallace Wade, they're still going to have attendance issues. Smallest school and sports following in the triangle, by far, with UNC and NCSU right next door. But there is no reason they can't be the ACC's version of Northwestern. I don't think they'll ever be like Stanford, but they do seem to be fundraising like Stanford at the moment.

When we played there last year there was a massive renovation of their football stadium and support buildings taking place. The price tag when I just looked it up was $100 million. That doesn't sound like they aren't valuing their football program. That's a TON of coin.

It was only a matter of time. No way where they truly committed to winning in football.

They totally redid their stadium, have committed to their coach and is putting a ton of money. Because a historically bad team lost to another historically bad team does not mean they aren't committed to winning.

I've said before, while it's only one or two games, Duke has benefited greatly by missing the good Atlantic teams the past few years. It's always been Wake Forest and another jobber. I don't know when, but eventually they'll draw Clemson or Florida ST or even Louisville.

Losing the first ACC game to Wake hurts a lot.

Wake was able to control the game with a solid running game. I expect a repeat of last year's
game.
