Louisville Game @ the Pete & Other Dribbles ...

One cannot continue to say after every win/competitive loss for Pitt, "the other team is lousy." If you don't like the Coach/Staff it does not change the fact that progress is being made back to respectability. There is absolutely no indication that this team is going to tank and this will place HCJC squarely in the good graces of the people he works for. Deal with it.

We’ve only played 1 game inside the Pomeroy Top 50 and it was WVU.

So yes… these teams all objectively stink. Not one of the ACC teams we’ve played would appear to be an at large candidate.

Hopefully he lands someone of consequence in the portal and they have a shot at NCAA in year 5.
Or speaking of Lol,..........hopefully he doesn't.

Seriously though , I would say from an administrative stance it is a good logical plan, communicate exactly where the program needs to be by the end of year 5 and then let the chips fall where they may.

Not following a long that closely but if Notre Dame can exceed 20 wins they may have the best shot, albeit they have to keep getting better.

As Mike Tomlin says, I’d rather they participate in the single elimination tournament for the championship if the world. Makes life slightly more interesting for a few weeks/months. That’s why I had draft be damned let’s get in the playoffs for the Steelers!

I’m wondering if the Syracuse game I watched just a few days ago really happened or I just had a nightmare. Because now all I read is that Capel has turned the corner, the team is focused, no one is going to want to play us in the ACC tournament and we are going to the NCAAs next year. Along with the obligatory “if only we had Horton and Sibande” comments because no other college basketball team has suffered major injuries or personnel issues.

Maybe…just maybe…we should wait to see if they can string together 3 or 4 good games in a row before we anoint Capel as a miracle worker and start buying 2023 Final Four tickets.

Haha the hyperbole goes both ways. It’s what makes this board interesting. When we win, every negative person is wrong and an idiot. We we lose, all the positive people are wrong and are idiots.

it’s somewhere in the middle of the two extremes

tough call, different types of players. Burton is definately better offensively, but James Robinson "ran the show", if you would. He was a true pass first point guard. Burton is not really looking to lead the team in assists , he is much more looking to score. J Rob, never really improved a ton after his freshman year. Solid, but unspectacular. He was not one of the elite point guards I was referring to. Carl Krauser, Brandin Knight, Brad Wannamaker, Ashton Gibbs (more shooter).
Put James Robinson on any of those teams that Knight, Krauser, Fields had and he would have been just as good if not better. And Wanny was not a PG and Gibbs only played point one year due to an injury to the starter.

Either that, or everyone is an idiot!

Where does this fit? ;););)

He’ll be back next year
Accept that now
Accept what? I really don’t care either way. They won’t make the tournament with this same team next year unless he adds a PG and a significant other piece from the portal. And I doubt they’re gonna do that. I have no money involved with it other than wanting Pitt to be good. This is such an odd thing to say.

And you’re right, he probably will be back because Heather has a huge egg on her face if she gives into the booster demands.

He sure seems to know how to get the max out of forwards (Hugley this year, Champagnie playing the 4 last year, Blake Griffin at Oklahoma), so maybe there is hope he can keep working magic with big men and bring in some more quality bigs.

They need a 4, but more important than anything, they need a PG who makes people better. He’s had multiple PG’s who worry about making themselves better.

Ya care
You make loud proclamations he was done
You’ll be wrong
Because you aren’t an insider

Cool.

I want Pitt basketball to be good. The next 2 months are miserable with no Steelers and no ncaa birth on horizon. All 3 city teams suck. Miserable time to be in the city, as I see you’re always having.

Hi. It's the Penguins. We are good again. As always. The undisputed king of Pittsburgh sports since 1990.

They still want rid of him. Whether or not they tank down the stretch like normal and Heather pulls the trigger is the question.

I mean everyone wants rid of him if there was no buyout and you could be assured of getting a better coach but paying a hefty buyout to hire whatever coach wins the CAA or SoCon this year and rebuilding AGAIN (4th rebuild in 6 years) is plain stupid. Now if we tank again and Hugley leaves, then yea, you may get your wish.

I really don’t understand why you care about money that isn’t yours. Also, your constant ragging on mid major coaches is idiotic. Sure if you are Kansas or Duke you can just pluck whichever successful coach you want but if your Pitt and your options are mediocre retreads with P5 experience or midmajors who have won at multiple programs, you choose the latter every time. It’s the only way a school like Pitt has a chance to end up with a special coach.

If your only way to have fun is watching hoops while in a city , you’re doing it wrong .

I’ll be enjoying plenty .
It’s not for everyone

plus there is also the elite nhl team .

Arkansas, Illinois, Texas A&M, Tennessee, and LSU were able to hire P6 or high major coaches. Those aren't blue bloods. All were considerably worse than us just 8-10 years ago.

As for the money thing, every dollar Pitt spends on a buyout is a dollar they cant spend on something else. I hate to see them spend money to buy out a coach to hire a coach who might be worse.

Lol… Musselman and Will Wade were quite literally the exact thing you are campainging against. They came from Nevada and VCU. They were the hot mid major names of the time. Rick Barnes was on the verge of being fired at Texas so that was more like a more successful Stallings type hire. Buzz Williams is completely meh.

I mean sure we could probably do something like A&M or Tennessee and bring in a guy like maybe Turgeon but it’s just so blah. So many really good young coaches out there who are way more desperate with higher ceilings.

Also… Capel is 17-43 in the ACC!!!!!! It would be really really hard for it to get any worse.

Last thing, Wake did the exact thing you don’t want us to do and fired Manning and hired a mid major guy in Forbes and they are currently #48 on Pomeroy in Year 2…

Year ONE!!!!!!!!!! After they finished 175 last year…

So all your BS about how we’d be guaranteed to be awful next year without Capel is nonsense.

The Mountain West and A10 are NOT mid-major conferences. How many times do we have to go over this? They are high majors, a step below the Big Ten and SEC and a step above the CAA, MAC, SoCon, etc.

Also, this is Year 2 for Forbes. Year 1 was awful.

Good call on Forbes. But Ok then a guy we’d target and have a good shot with if we move on from Capel is Medved from CSU… which is in the Mountain West.
