UL losing. BELLMARINE offense has virtually no dribbling.
Crazy to watch.
I hope they can pull this out

Quite a few people (unfortunately not me) were on this one as Louisville opened around -13.5 and closed all the way down to 7.5. I kinda remember Bellarmine had a really nice season last year, but did not see this coming.

Louisville is very, very bad. If the performance on Monday doesn’t have you bullish on our chances to be somewhere in that middle tier of the ACC, performances like this should. There are some bad teams in this league and, as long as we’re healthy, there is zero excuse to not be in that 7-10 range

I took Bellarmine straight up.
UL didn't do shit in recruiting for this year. It should be a bottom of league year for them. But Bellmarine plays basketball unlike any other teams

I agree after UNC, Duke, Virginia, & Miami, I'm not sure any teams are that good. Pitt need the big guy to be back and healthy and they have a real shot

Bellarmine won their conference tournament last year and plays at Freedom Hall, where the Final was so that was cool.

As for Louisville, I didn't think Payne was a good hire. Thought a school like that could get a lot of good coaches and didnt have to settle.

Payne could be a good hire if you have some patience. The issue is that the expectation was that hiring Payne (and then Milt Wagner) meant you were getting DJ Wagner, which is not happening. Louisville has probably been one of the bigger schools hit by the southern football schools getting serious about hoops and NIL. It’s a good job but now that everyone has money and “cheating” is largely legal, it’s not the Death Star of talent that it once was.

Similar to how the Old Big East drifted into domination by the football schools.

Now that the hoops schools are free from football schools you see the resurgence of Villanova, Providence & Seton Hall. I'm not sure why the other schools haven't gotten better.

He makes a good point about Louisville being hit by the SEC getting $erious about hoops. I disagree 100% about your point about the Big East. Nova had a FF and a #1 seed with the football schools. Providence and SHU are coaches, not programs. Everyone else has sucked.

Well, from Villanova's 1995 Big East Tournament title to the split in 2013 the only titles won by the basketball schools were St. John's in 2000 and Georgetown in 2007 when they beat us.

So, 16 of the final 18 Big East Tournaments were won by football-also schools; Pitt, UConn, B.C., WVU, Louisville & Syracuse. In those championship games only five of the 18 were hoops-only schools. One was lost by Cincy, a football-also school.

Of the 36 possible teams in those Big East Tournament championship games only seven were hoops-only schools.

Since the split Villanova has won five Big East Tournaments. Before the split they had won in 1995, that's it.

Seton Hall has won a Big East title since the split and Providence has as well. Seton Hall had to wait 23 years to win after it won in 1993. And Providence had a 20-year gap between titles.

I'm not bad-mouthing the Big East. I loved it. I attended 29 consecutive Big East Tournaments and, when I can, I still watch the conference games. But, the numbers don't lie.

Will the fact that our players just aren't good enough to be in that 7-10 range be a valid enough excuse?

Louisville is terrible. BC and Syracuse aren’t great either. I understand last night was humbling but Pitt can realistically be in that middle tier of ACC teams

Here's a real conspiracy that @Sean Miller Fan should have been all over.

Louisville only played this game at all because of the Louisville women's volleyball team! Why? See the link below. Louisville was one of the best volleyball teams in the country last year, but their normal venue is too small to host NCAA tournament matches. Bellarmine moved a MBB date to allow UL to host the volleyball tournament in Freedom Hall.

In appreciation of Bellarmine's aid in the move and spirit of cooperation, UofL will has agreed to play Bellarmine in a men's basketball game in the KFC Yum! Center in each of the next two seasons with a home game in both 2022 and 2023, with dates to be determined.

Yet Louisville just plucked a 5-star freshman that started at a SEC school this past off-season.

I think they'll get it right there but I followed some recruiting nerds and they seemed pretty dumbfounded on their past offseason recruiting

They’re saying the same thing about Pitt on other boards

After BC just dropped a game to Maine, there are more than a few programs in this league who have bigger issues than looking down on Pitt. The bottom of this league is BAD. If Pitt can’t get up into the middle tier, that’s an utter embarrassment given the state of some of these programs

The ACC is basically a couple good teams at the top + the Atlantic 10.

Louisville loses to App St. Payne might not make it through the year.
He shouldn't. There's 0 reason, 0 as to why Louisville couldnt make an "SEC hire." Bama gets Oats, Arkansas get Musselman, Auburn gets Pearl but Louisville hires a guy who has never done it? This is why the ACC sucks.

He was an awful hire.

Kenny Payne was going to get a shot at a P6 job, so it’s not like they hired some no-name low major coach. Whether Louisville is the level where he should’ve started at is up for discussion, but his resume at Kentucky and his connections were going to get him a job in the P6.

Flat out they thought he could steal DJ Wagner from Kentucky and grossly underestimated a motivated Calipari. He wasn’t losing that kid. Louisville is awful this year, but these aren’t “his guys” so you have to give him at least this class and the next to make some noise in recruiting and see if it translates to wins.
