Loyola vs. Illinois

The big ten is a steaming pile of overated excrement! Underwood may be a good recruiter, but, he is a horrible coach. He has 10 times the talent that Loyala has and his team was totally dominated from the opening tip. They couldn't even put any game pressure on them, as they couldn't get the margin under 9 points.

The entire conference sucks. Michigan will be next. I wouldn't really care that much but illinois has destroyed my bracket. There were some people on here that were singing the praises of Underwood. He may be able to recruit, but to be dominated with superior talent is inexcusable.

Underwood has won everywhere he has been and Illinois was in bad shape when he took over. Loyola is a good team. Almost every good coach has lost to an underdog in the NCAA tournament at some point. Your hot take is absurd.

A couple of the talking heads who were so confident Illinois would storm back in this one have a lot of crow to eat.

Yikes. Not a great time in Pitt-girl's house.

Honestly, I watched Illinois all year. I warned a week or so ago they can get sloppy and lose focus, but I honestly believed that they were the best team in the field, even better than Gonzaga.

Be safe, pitt-girl. Put on the Penguins game and that may serve as a distraction.

I thought Loyola would keep it close! But they led wire to wire! #OnwardLU

That maybe true. The only other time I have seen a 1 seed dominated like that was when UMBC smashed Virginia. Plenty of 8 seeds have upended number one seeds but, very rarely are they games where the 1 was not even competitive. Illinois was never in that game from the opening tip. Dosumnu played like he was payed off by some Chicago mobsters. Loyola is solid, but shouldn't dominate a #1 seed.

The whole big 10 after being touted as the best conference has pretty much stunk. I really don't care what your take is on that, because it is fact.

To be fair, Loyola was top 15 or so Kenpom. They had no business being an 8. But Moser coached circles around Underwood. Illinois made no adjustments in that game.

Name 1 good college head coach who has been at the collegiate level for more than 10 years who has not been upset in the Big Dance.

I hope the Big 10 loses. I’m not of fan of them either.

I don't disagree with you about upsets in the big dance. That said, Ski's post above yours kind of illustrates my point. Moser made Underwood and the Illinii look bad. Illinois just went through the motions expecting to win. As Ski said, they made no adjustments. That was the most disappointing thing.

Loyola was executing perfectly. They were getting shots at the rim or smart 3s. Illinois seemed to think their NBA talent would be enough. Too many force mis range shots.

For sure, they got several back door cut layups and Illinois also was a turnover machine, especially Ayo.

No. They just don't shoot the 3 well enough. And Gonzaga is so much better.

Loyola is exactly the type of team we would be terrified to watch prime Pitt get matched up against in the tourney. See also: Kent St, Marquette, Bradley, Pacific, Butler, Wichita St... mostly once in a lifetime type seasons/tournament runs those schools went on with Pitt as a victim on all of them.

100%. nice to see it happen to other teams.

Porter Moser is a real good coach. Illinois have two players worth a damn and one of them didn't show up today. Kofi can't do it all.

Illinois has more than 2 good players. Loyola is a lot more talented than people give them credit for.

All those guys running off screens then running off Krutwig for dribble hand offs or back door cuts is really fun to watch. Very throwback but most teams won't have the big guy who can pass like that to do it.
