Lunardi Latest Update (5 PM 3-4-23)

The way they've played tonight, that's not happening. If you can't play defense and don't rebound, you lose.

No other team in the country would drop down with a loss on the road to a top 20 team. WVU @ Iowa St, he claimed it had no impact if they had lost (they didn't) but the narrative against the ACC is a joke.

I think Pitt is the only team in P6 history to be playing for the regular season title on the last day, needing to win it or go to the NIT

If Pitt doesn t make the tourney. The committee is a joke. Great effort today and great game against Miami. Poplar was unconscious

I was thinking the same thing. From ranked and in first place in a power conference to NiT is unprecedented I would guess

I hate to say it but the way we played last two games shows that maybe what people are saying about this team is correct. Really need to get to and win the quarterfinal game to get in at this point.

If you think the only way we make the NCAA Tournament is by beating Duke on Thursday, you are insane.

The game on Wednesday against FSU/GT is a must win if you want to feel any semblance of good on Sunday
Likely gets us to Dayton. NC State - Clemson quarterfinal will punch a ticket unless VT plays a spoiler like last year

Yeah he was. I said on the other board he had made 32 3pt fg's in 29 games this year before tonights game.

They will beat FSU or GT on Wednesday and give Duke a battle on Thursday. I still think Pitt is in the tournament. There is no way anybody on the committee can watch that game tonight and say Pitt is not an NCCA Tournament team unless you are brain dead.

We just lost to a top 20 team on the road by two points. Just what do you think that says about this team?
Yeah but we also lost a pair of games we absolutely had to win including Florida State at home and ND on the road. With our slow start and all of the other Non ACC teams on the bubble winning games today we might have played our way out of the tournament and it would be hard to argue we should be in there.

And I hate saying that. I love this team and how they grew throughout the season. But unless they get hot and win a couple of games next week we might be on outside looking in. I would hope we make Dayton but who knows. If we lose Wednesday we are definitely NIT bound for sure. I think we can call agree to that.

Losing tonight doesn't play our way out of the tournament. Losing tonight doesn't hurt at all.

Now the Florida State and Notre Dame losses, yeah, those are the killers. But not Miami at Miami.

Nobody on the committee watched the game today or any games. They have 80 hour/week jobs running their athletic departments. They just look at team sheets.

Log off for awhile, dude. Good god.

Pitt played well today outside of rebounding. Miami is good and played well. They have a bruiser inside that killed us. Fede is out of gas and seemingly succumbing to the pressure a bit.

I understand but win this game and we are a lock. Now its 50/50 at best. Have to absolutely win Wednesday and probably Thursday as well. Lose Thursday and we are probably at best in Dayton or worse NIT if some bubble teams win their tournaments.

Why do I have to log off? What I'm saying tonight is true. Fede had a bad game and was the reason we lost. If he plays like he's capable of we are in the tournament. That second chance slam he clearly wasn't in position or even attempt to block out. I love the kid but he was clearly not in the game today at all.

Actually part of the job of the people on the committee is to go to and watch teams in their area play games.

Now it's unlikely that any of them were in Miami tonight, but they absolutely do both watch and go to games.

To be safe, we'll need to win 2 games in the ACCT in order to be in the field. Win 1 game and lose 1, and we're sweating it out and probably NIT bound. Win none and....well, we know the rest. That means Pitt lost 3 games in a row to end the season, and the committee doesn't like that. This is Pitt we're talking about.

I’m guessing, pending tomorrow’s Big 10 games, Boise who was a last 4 bye lost to first 4 out Utah State. Pitt is likely now in a last 4 bye slot. 2 last four in lost today. 1-1 should get Pitt to Dayton similar to what ND got last year.

They may say they that but they dont. They run athletic departments 80 hours/week. Do you think Heather Lyke would have been watching Miss St/Vandy tonight? No

That’s what sucks. They just go off the NET and not the eye test. Kind of sad.

Bottom line is if Pitt loses Wednesday expect the NIT. If we win but lose Thursday it's most likely Dayton or still perhaps NIT.

Pitt was 1 of the top teams in the league this season. They have a chance to make all their dreams come true this Wednesday to most likely get into the NCAA Tournament even if it's in Dayton.

If they lose I would call it a very late season collapse. The reason? Because most of these losses are against pretty awful teams.

Heather Lyke isn't on the committee.

The ones on the committee DO take their responsibility seriously, I believe.... and are - like me - watching 5 games at a time every night.

THEY DONT HAVE TIME. They have 80-100 hour/week jobs. There's no way they watch as many games as you think. I'm saying if Lyke was on the committee, how many non-ACC games is she watching? How would she have time? She'll watch the last weekend and get a team sheet. That's what they do. Which is why you need dedicated basketball people on it.

Well that's just dumb. Not that that should surprise anyone, but it's just dumb.

Would Heather Lyke have been watching Miss State/Vandy tonight? No, absolutely not. But would she have been watching, say, Alabama - Texas A&M this afternoon? Or maybe Auburn - Tennessee? Or maybe Purdue - Wisconsin on Thursday? Of course she would have. Because that's a part of the job. People who don't want to do things like that don't volunteer to serve on the committee in the first place.

I DISAGREE WITH YOU.

The ones selected to be on the committee delegate a lot of their work this time a year - we've seen profiles of how they operate. Especially in the final two weeks of the season, they are intently watching as many games as they can.

I have a 60-hour week job, and I'm watching 5-10 games a night. And I'm not on the committee. First off, they aren't working 80-100 hours in their day jobs. You're a fool if you believe that.

These guys are watching as many games as they can - even WHILE working their day jobs.

An AD is working 8AM (or earlier) to 10PM 5 days a week and most of the time on the weekends at events. I consider working games, meeting alums, and watching their teams as "working."

100 hours a week would basically mean wake up in the morning, get ready and go to the office, come home at the end of the day and get ready for bed, go to sleep and get up the next day and do it over again.

I mean there are only 168 hours in a week. If you work 100 and you sleep 50 (seven hours a night), and you obviously need some amount of time to get dressed and ready for work in the morning, and you have to drive both to and from work, what else is there any time left for?

And the ones that are on the committee are not doing as much of that stuff right now.

Again.... we have seen documentaries and stories about what it is like on the committee. They are intently watching games continuously over the final two weeks of the season. When they joined the committee, they blocked out their calendars for those weeks. How do we know this? Because past committee members...and current ones.... have said so.

They take the responsibility seriously and are watching more games than you.... and probably even more games than me. And I'm watching a shit ton of games daily.
