Lynn Swann Named USC AD, Joining Pat Haden As Former Players To Lead, LINK!

He has lived in Pgh for a very long time.

That USC crowd is thicker than thieves....if as suggested he is the Face of USC and lets the other stuff to someone else....maybe it will work

But man have they frigged up lately. Haden made absolutely ridiculous decisions one after another.
Dude was a Rhodes Scholar and Attorney yet screwed that job big time.

Followed this FB team as long as Pitt.
Been as upset as Snoop Dogg over the collapse of Troy

Fight On

Brought in to clean up NCAA Sanctions Reggie Bush mess. But you are right, USC Boosters hated Kiffen and then Sarkanian drinking and relationship with one of the USC Song Girls and Helton that just hired his Brother? Hire a good basketball Coach so far without a Consultant?

Boosters never happy with Haden happy either and Haden's health is an issue now. USC made a change bringing back another Alumnus and replaced the A.D. once mistakes were seen with Coaches hiring?

Saw Haden play in person in college

Forgot about the health issue. Always liked him in his other roles.
USC was a mess is mess
Would not blame him solely but still some very bad decisions while he had charge

How long has Juhl worked for the university? Randy has proven himself to be a good leader at a high level.
More years as a Top Innovator Administrator started in 1979, and like he said, if Pitt cured Polio, Pitt can find a coach that can win 10 games a year? And Juhl did it in weeks not months like PP Errors, that couldn't do it at Nebraska either?

What I see Swann doing is taking over an A.D. Department now in Full Compliance and will just build upon what Haden straighten out. If he needs to find New Coaches you can bet he will be talking to Rooney's Office and other USC Graduates in Coaching, Sports Management and that is a place 11+ games are expected every year. Plus, the Steelers just got a New Pipeline to USC Football Insiders Draft Picks?

If Helton does not win 10 games this year I would not be surprised to start hearing names from Steeler's Coaching Staff and even Bill Cowher? Just a Guess and Hunch, not gospel.

Odds that Swann comes after Narduzzi after Clay Helton gets fired in two years?

I think Coach Duzz would be a bit too nuts-and-bolts for USC and Swannie. They will be all about "splash and bling" or "shock and awe."

Remember when Swannie was running for Gov. of PA. Yikes!

Go PItt.

Yeah, how ironic--Haden was brought in to clean up "messes" from the Garrett tenure, yet leaves messes of his own to clean up.

They are in compliance and Swann will find New Coaches if Helton does not work out? Kiffen and Sarkasian caused their own personal and professional problems too, not Haden. Haden got rid of them too for their behavior.

He was at USC when they came here to play Johnny Majors first year. They were a powerhouse under John McKay and PITT gave them a scare until the backup QB came in and iced it for USC.

It was a nice day at old PITT stadium eating fresh Italian bread and Salami along with the case of cans we brought in.

Remember it well, Pitt looked so small compared to the bigger Trojans. It was the second year of Majors and they lost 7-16 like you said late TD. By 1980s Pitt and USC were leading the NFL Drafts!

That was during the Anthony Davis era. I'm pretty sure that was the same year that ND was blowing them out 24-0 late in the first half. USC got a touchdown right before the half, and then Davis took the second half kickoff to the house, and the rout was on. 55-24 was the final. This was worse than the 48-14 game, and of course was much more enjoyable.

I'm not sure about this hire but I think it does perfectly demonstrate the changing paradigm in college athletics that I've been talking about for a long time.

Nowadays, if you are an athletic director at a Power 5 program, your job is basically to raise money. You serve as the face of the athletic department, you give interviews about the glory years, you attend an endless array of alumni functions, you kiss babies, all of that.

That is his job.

His job is NOT to serve as the general manager of the football program. That may sound odd for a guy who is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. However, that's how it works.

How did you ever manage to find parking?

Good insight, Pitt had an A.D. great at covering his Buyouts First, using his Buddy Consultants, and thought he was a GM for the Program, and few Coaches wanted to work under him and fewer wanted to contribute to Pitt because of him?

Your right Cap, but Gary Burley anchored the interior of PITT's D line and caused havoc all day long.

Agree with you, I had to look it up to remember the dates. I recall the game because they warmed up Pre-Game and USC was just bigger in comparison.

Yet, like you said, Pitt was driving the Trojans crazy until near the end, and it was heart breaking loss that left a sour but hopeful feeling in one's stomach.

The "What Could Have Been" Game? Pitt was still looking for a significant win against a Top National Program and came close but no cigar.
