More than anyone, his injuries really set him back coming into the season. He's a tough kid, he'll help for sure. I'm not writing off Ododa either, but he knows he must improve to get minutesLooked very good tonight. Solid, smart player. Like a brick wall. Good defense. Much better than I thought he was.
Thought he looked pretty good on offense as well. He and Young seemed to have some chemistry between them with some great interior passing. He should get better as he gets healthier and into better shape.
Biggest relief in the world he started tonight. I think ANO is going to be a huge disappointment. Maia is much better.
Yeah I almost agree about before the season with you also. I thought Maia was going to be a great rebounder, but ANO the better athlete, shot blocker, and overall player. But that is nowhere near the case. Maia is doing pretty well too I think.I thought the exact opposite when the season started, but agree with you now. I don't know what is wrong with ANO, he is better than he is playing. what I find very interesting about Maia is that, at least for 1 game, he really looked like a basketball player. he has size, but you saw the basketball smarts, decent quickness, he guarded the hedge well last night, and good touch around the hoop. given he was in the Ivy league, its not a shocker he plays smart, but it is so nice to see and fun to watch. Mike Young has been an incredible passer this year, it will be huge if Maia can convert Mikes passes all year.
Basically, he meshes with Mike because they're both smart, unselfish players. Artis is like that, too, just more of a perimeter guy. Maybe the savviest duo we've had inside was Lett & Chevy.....or Blair & anybody else. Just ballers. Maia has really good instincts, uses his bulk properly. Crafty....and seems to be having fun.very good offense as well. good ball movement, passing, in the right place. good touch around the hoop, decent foul shooter.
if he continues to improve, he will be a nice piece for this team. will be interesting to see how he does down the road against the bigs in the ACC.
one thing that is a negative is that he does not seem to be getting as many rebounds as you would expect.

Couldn't agree more. Maia needs to be the starting 5 here on out. Just worlds better than ANO and brings way more intensity. ANO should not be getting very many minutes per game. One thing I like about Maia is his enthusiasm. Really a positive player and that tends to spread... and that is a plus.

When they were signed I expected Maia to start at C... he is bigger than ANO or Young... but injuries held him back but now he is coming on. Will probably be bringing in more and more rebounds as time moves along here as that is one thing he does for sure.
I would not give up on ANO just yet... at least for being an impact player off the bench. Dixon said he could have played him some against the Zags but it didn't seem to be significant to do so. Uh, I would start Maia over ANO but am not sure about Luther over ANO spelling Maia.
Actually... Dixon played Luther... but just 6 minutes and I think it was at PF with Maia at C. Maia played 25 minutes so it is hard to say if the other 15 were played by... Mike Young.... with Jeter at PF.
Hmmm... hard to get a handle on this one. Dixon probably wanted to play Maia more so he could get... more into shape... a really good workout.
Dixon said he wanted ANO to be ready to go Sunday so I expect we will be seeing him off the bench at C.
