Mama bear says not tonight for reid

Agree 100% but there’s a fine line. We’ve all seen parents try to make it about them as much as their kids.

And I’m not saying Reid’s mother is, just speaking generally.
While that's true, I'll take parent-involvement over handler-involvement every time.

Has Pitt EVER landed a player who had a handler besides Birch?

Beats me.

I think you’re likely generally right about parent vs handler. But there are probably a lot of parents who will try to get the highest bid if available.

+1

Although as a fan this is annoying, Reid does seem like a high character kid. No handler, no Top 20s, Top 10s, no social media. Maybe even a bit introverted?

I have said if Pitt were to land a 5-star, it would have to be a weird situation like Adams who didnt have a recruitment or Birch with the bag. In this case, you have a different type of kid who isn't this primadonna with a handler.

Still don't think he's going to Pitt but I have felt more confident about him than any other big fish for these reasons.

Maybe it's overprotection though and trying to shield him from the spotlight for as long as possible. But it's a little weird, for sure.
I hope we are all reading into this a bit much. At face value, Elton Reid seems like a guy that doesn’t like the spotlight and may be overwhelmed by the big decision before him. He has talent. He has size. Everyone wants him. Mom is protecting him like she should. He doesn’t like attention and she’s at least diverting attention away from him by commanding Twitter. Not the healthiest situation, but if you were his parent and your child were perhaps intimidated by the spotlight, you/we parents might do the same.

Now a giant leap of inference, he may not be a one and done. He might have some social development that needs to take place before he goes pro. How will he play when the spotlight and pressure shines? I would like to think that Mama Bear is preparing him for this as well and guide him to the coach that will develop this component.

This scenario is right in Capel's wheelhouse!

That's how I read it, too.

Let me expand.. I believe mama likes Pitt and Capel. Reid was then pursued by FSU. Mama’s ok with FSU as well. She may also like the fact that both schools have African-Americans as head coaches. She tells her son that he can pick between the two. Then schools like LSU come knocking on the door. He is swept away with LSU and decides he wants to go there. Then mama says “time out” let’s talk about this...

If mama has her way, it will be either Pitt or FSU...

Hard to imagine any kid would pick LSU but then again, that is the sad state of college basketball.

It seems she’s protecting him
I appreciate that
More family involvement improves pitt’s chances since we aren’t tied into “handlers”

All this $$$ in recruiting has made me tune out.

Big schools cheat and yet are not punished, Kansas, Duke, UNC with its fake classes, etc. etc.

I cannot recall any family situation in my lifetime where a child is shy from the spotlight and the Mom steps up to protect them. Generally I have seen the situation where the child is shy and so are the parents. Two, The child is shy and the parents encourage the child to step up and try and be less shy And do all they can to not interfere. Third, the absolute lust for attention from the parent is WHAT CAUSES the child to be attention shy.

Perhaps it was Pitt. Capel would seem to do well with these type of kids/parents but then Balsa left and Hamilton came into the picture?

The solution to this whole silly Reid stuff is one thing: for Mama to cancel her twitter account and go silent. Twitter is mostly garbage and serves no real constructive purpose. Just leave and the kid will make his announcement when he feels like it. People will find out soon enough.

Mama likes Pitt because it’s a great school... however she’s not the one who has to endure the Capels directionless program right now with 0 sign of any winning or success in sight
The Jimmy’s and the Joe’s are who win the games, so her son would play a big part in the turnaround.

Why would you add Duke to this?

Duke is one of the few not tied to violations and typically don’t get those kinda players.

Just end it
Sheesh

There is a portion of the fan base that has lost all perspective. I'm on here at midnight in mid-April so I obviously think way too much about Pitt basketball, take it way too seriously. And I am not very optimistic about next season or the future of Capel here. But wow, you read some of these threads and it's just people wallowing in misery, savoring their self pity like pigs in sh-t.

Well said. I love Pitt athletics, however it’s not life. I don’t lose one ounce of sleep when Capel loses a recruit. It’s his job to lose sleep, not mine.

Well, I doubt very much that any of the posters on here vigorously sounding the alarms are losing any sleep over it either. They’re just posting their thoughts on a Pitt BB message board. Others can disagree on the sounding of alarms. Sounds like a good topic for ‘civil’ debate.

I don’t visit any other school FB/BB message boards. I always wonder if their discussions are as civil as ours herein or if posters instead pounce all over other posters who are all common fans of the same school.

Of course you would. He did an excellent job as coach at WVU. I lived in Morgantown during that time. People loved him. He was undefeated!
Sounds to me like you’re upset WVU fans don’t hate Dan Dakich. Evidently, you aren’t aware of the two subsequent coaches after him “despite living there”. Hardesty and Dakich had their issues. It happens. We moved on. Sorry we don’t hate him as much as you think we should. That’s a “you” problem it sounds like.

It's OK to enjoy that clown and acknowledge he's the functional moron that he is. You can have him and any game that he does- he's too annoying for me.
Lemme guess. You like Dick Vitale, Jay Bilas and Laphonso Ellis.....guys who are really cutting edge color guys.

I could care less about Dan Dakich. Why do you care what Pitt fans think on a Pitt message board no less?
