Remember when the board stormed cardiac hill because our coaches were obviously not playing the superior athlete at QB. Mark Myers exemplifies the yinzer syndrome where the back up QB is obviously being held back. He certainly proved the yinzers correct with his stellar career. We now have the sequel in Nate Yarnell. The sequels rarely are better than the original.

Yarnell might be decent, someday we may find out, but the really amusing one here is he fits into the "the only guy better than the back up is the THIRD string guy!" variation of the theme ("Bostick and Stull stink...Kevan Smith/Tino Sunseri has a gun though! Wanny is too dumb to let him play!")

What I've been saying all year. The kid was a G5 recruit and the backup QBs say that's only because he was hurt and Pickett was too. But 99 times out of 100, the backup QB is the backup or the 3rd string QB is the 3rd string QB because they are worse than the guys ahead of them. There's not very many Tyler Van Dyke's (and he was pretty heavily recruited).

Tony Pike. Genius Brian Kelly had him 3rd string.

Hasn't Nate already exceeded Mark?

Tyler Van Dyke didn't star for Miami last season, initially.

Hendon Hooker didn't start for Tennessee last season, intially.

DJ U probably wasn't the better option this season.

We were still giving reps to DiNucci even after we blew Pickett's redshirt.

The two teams that just played for the Big 12 Championship? Neither one of those quarterbacks were the opening day starter. And one will be invited to the Heisman ceremonies.

College football is a different animal.

Wasn’t Mark Myers a fringe NFL prospect at one point? Or am I way off base?
Yeah Myers was good at John Carroll, made some top 10 draft QB lists from D3. I think it was just bad luck he was a pocket passer who overlapped with the Todd Graham year?

How is this a Yinzer syndrome? I think it is more of a yinzer syndrome to think everything is Pittsburgh centric. Loving the back up QB happens in just about every single city with a football team. Expand your horizons dude.

Exactly. I can smell the fish sammie breath on this chain...

Hope Jurkovec does well, because I am a Pitt fan, but I really hope there is a true QB competition if Yarnell stays. Doubt the latter.

no i dont. cause it never happened..

love when posters make up non - existent events to try and push some dumb point.. i've been a regular on this board for way too long and i can say i've never heard of anyone really ever clamoring for Mark Meyers to play..

I remember him being a punch line on here though. he was the guy who'd go home to cleveland every weekend and miss practices though and was mocked on here for it, justifiably so..

besides that though, great post..

Yarnell = Empire Strikes Back!

But really, it looked to me like Yarnell was better at being a QB, meaning dropping back and reading the defense, and then putting the ball in a place for his WR to make the play.

What does that say about our QB recruiting? We have 3 scholarship QB's on the roster. One is an incoming journeyman transfer who never set the world on fire. One is a journeyman Pitt guy who has been a backup his entire career. One is an underclassman who played in one game. That's what we're depending on to lead us next year. Pretty uninspiring.

A yinzer expanding their horizons is moving to the other side of the tunnels

as a pitt fan, i really would love to see yarnell play in another game and see how he looks. i am not sure what is "yinzer" about that?

I dont want to see patti, we've seen it and well, he's probably not gonna be here next year so cant for the life of me figure out why any pitt fan would Want him to play. Especially over a player that most likely will be on our roster next year..

Nate didn’t play as a high school junior (bench) or senior (hurt) or his 1st year of college (hurt again). You seriously are not comparing him to the talent listed above that actually had a high school career as well as meaningful practice time
