Hey guys. Looking forward to coming up this weekend. Any idea where there are good places near the stadium to tailgate for visiting fans? I've been to Pitt a couple times but not to games in the stadium so not sure about all that. Can you bring canopy tents to set up? Beer in cups I assume? Any information would be much appreciated. I think the match up will be good. We get our QB back this week. Recommend any pizza places to grab some for the tailgate? Thanks in advance.

No tents in the stadium lots. Most parking in the immediate vicinity is presold but you might check the online resellers. You can park and tailgate in lots north of the stadium about a 15-min walk away.

wheres the best open face roast beef sandwich prefer mash pot. instead of fries
There's an old train station that is now a food joint on the South Side. They have a decent Sunday brunch where you can have a great sandwich. It's always crowded so call, tell them how many people and give them your credit card info. You'll be impressed. Oh, name is Grand Concourse.

Thanks for the tip. Looking forward to the trip up, bringing my 10 year old daughter with my group.

Our seats are section 112 row b, is the view still good that close to the field?

My view is it is too low. From time to time, you may need to stand to see over the folks and players on the sideline. You could have worse seats...so I would not worry much. Enjoy your visit, but hope you end up going home a loser. Hail to Pitt!

Interesting they don't allow tents for tailgates. When it's hot or raining you have no coverage.

You asked about pizza. If you don't mind walking a few extra steps: on the "city side", cross the Clemente Bridge onto 6th Street, there's a good pizza place called "Giovanni's". Or....order take-out, and pick it up before you drive over the Clemente Bridge to the Northshore.

Address: 123 6th St, Pittsburgh, PA 15222
Phone: (412) 281-7060

Hope this helps.....

Good seats. Near goal line, but easy to see whole field. We've been in 114 for years and enjoy the view. Be sure to check out the Steeler Walk of Fame.

Herdon why did you guys drop Wvu in football?

WVU dropped us. They were forced by our state government when Joe Manchin was there to play us. They also just dropped us in basketball. They have a holier than thou attitude that somehow they should never have to travel in state to come play us at home. Even in basketball they would never play us at home. Always had to be a neutral site. Probably same kind of deal with Penn St and you guys. We pretty much hate WVU as much as you guys do.

My favorite memory of you guys playing is when you ruined their shot at going to a national title game few years back. I was celebrating like a Pitt fan that night.

I think this home and home between us is a big middle finger by both your AD and our previous one. You guys for being snubbed and ours because of all the stupid stuff Ollie Luck publically spewed when we accepted the ACC invite.

I'm looking forward to making the trek to Huntingdon in a few years. Anything I have to do there that my trip won't be complete without?

Watch the movie We Are Marshall if you haven't seen it yet. Maybe watch closer to the time you come down and see some of the filming sites. Specifically the cemetery scene where McConaughey gives his speech. That is the actual spot where the 6 unknown players are buried. Also go down to campus and check out the fountain. And if you have time go out to the plane crash site which is marked and has an overlook site. All neat places to see. There are other filming locations like downtown at the Keith Albee and stuff too.

As far as eating goes. Go down to Marshall Hall of Fame Cafe. Nice Marshall sports bar. Definitely try Fat Patties as well across from football stadium.

Is it true that when you graduate from WVU you can add upon request, for the cost of a self-addressed stamped envelope and the donation of one (1) gently used sofa, a Masters Degree from WVU?

Tough to pitch a tent in a paved parking lot. Tailgating takes place in an urban area...not some grass field. Enjoy your visit, but hope you go home with a loss. Hail to Pitt!

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. Fat Patties sound fantastic.

Haven't seen the movie yet but will make that part of my "homework" before the game. My family on my mom's side has deep roots in the West Virginia coal miners' struggles of the early 1900's. I'm reading a book titled "The Devil is Here in these Hills" about those struggles. The plan is to take a few days and hit those spots with my uncle and see where some of our family grew up.

Anyway enjoy your trip to Pittsburgh. Hope you have a great time but are disappointed by the final score!

We have paved parking all over since our stadium is urban area as well. No issues with ours.

I could be wrong, but I always assumed that the reason why they don't allow the "tents" is because there is no easy way to stake them down (sure, there are weights that can be bought, but they're a hassle).

A good wind could pick-up the tents and send them flying all over, and legal issues would ensue because of (possible) damage.

Again, this is just my opinion, based on nothing.

A bunch of us tailgated in the rain for the Rolling Stones concert last year, and the police kept walking thru the Gold Lots to make sure that no one used tents - even during the pouring rain. It led to a few ugly (but only verbal) confrontations. But the police wouldn't budge on the issue.

It was stupid that they wouldn't allow people to sit under a temporary shelter during a heavy rain, but they didn't.

no tents to be erected in parking lot to due space limitations and for emergency access into and through the parking lot

Well every place has different rules [for instance, you can actually still smoke cigarettes in certain bars and restaurants in Pittsburgh--despite being illegal in most of the Commonwealth]. Cannot imagine why anyone would permit someone to drive a stake through pavement...but maybe in WV that is acceptable? As another poster listed, Pittsburgh does it for safety concerns and a lack of space. A reasonable rule. Don't like it, park in a place where it is not a rule. Hail to Pitt!

Haha...no we just weight it down if it's windy and if its not it doesn't go anywhere.

Come to Gold.Lot 1 . Walk up to any tailgate. Introduce yourself I promise you will eat and drink well. We are nice folks. Marshall is a school everyone likes.

May take you up on that offer! Have no solid plans right now so if weather is ok may stop by some tailgates for food or what not. Can I park in those lots as well?
