Franklin might be interested as his domination of the state might be easier against Johns Hopkins and Towson
Conklin has nowhere near the resume for a Power 5 HC job, and he's nowhere near ready for one. It took Narduzzi over 25 years as a coach and 10 straight years of being one of the best DCs in the game to get his shot. You think Conklin is ready now? Come on.Hope Pitt's staff is not interested, I like what we have! With the improvement on the D, Josh Conklin becomes a hot commodity!
How does Penni feel about LA? Sarkisian obviously out after allegedly showing up drunk today.
Kinda like the USC offense Thursday night. BTW, Pat Haden is making Steve Pederson look like a discriminating judge of coaching talent considering the way his hoops hire is working out as well.Sarkisian didn't show up drunk today. He didn't show up today, period.
Haden had a chance with Peterson from BOISE I have read.Kinda like the USC offense Thursday night. BTW, Pat Haden is making Steve Pederson look like a discriminating judge of coaching talent considering the way his hoops hire is working out as well.
UMD is a mess.Somebody call Mrs. Fraud.
Not only that but he also passed out drunk in the plane ride home from Washington state game. When your AD has to ban alcohol from the locker room you know it is a problem.A player apparently told ESPN that Sark "showed up lit to meetings again today", implying of course that he had come to meetings impaired before.
It's funny, I was in Newport Beach at the time of the booster incident and the general feeling seemed to be that even if he got them to the playoffs Haden would give him the boot after the season. I had a bartender tell me that Bear Bryant was a drunk and that West Virginia currently had 2 drunk head coaches and the USC alums didn't care as long as he won. Well #1 is Morgantown is about as far away from LA as you can get, and #2 expecting great seasons from "7 win Sark" is unlikely.
Sarkisian wasn't a great hire to begin for a school like USC, who should be able to get pretty much anyone they want, not just a former player with a mediocre resume. The Kiffin hire was obviously a disaster as well. I expect them to go after a less dynamic but more accomplished coach this time. Haden's career probably depends on this next hire.

He does seem to do a good job keeping it together for the most part but it is a time bomb waiting to go off. Guy like him and to a lesser extent Tom Bradley aren't exactly what you want to be the face of your program. There is no doubt they are great assistant coaches. However can a parent trust a guy who continues to live like a college student spending most of their free in bars to help turn your boy into a man? I have a friend in college coaching who was an assistant for a hall of fame coach at a lower level. His biggest piece of advice was to get married and have a family. Many schools and athletic directors won't trust single coaches.I am on record noting that Holgerson is immature, and his off field lifestyle and general personality bleeds into the program. But, I think he has the capacity to compartmentalize it, show up for work sober and do the job in that regard. Even some of these old timers probably had the capacity to do the same, though I am sure there are situations people could point to.
But, in this day and age, with social media and everyone with a cell phone wired up to relay a sneeze to the entire world, you have to have a REAL problem to do what he has done.

EOE rules be damned.. kind of ironic since coaching responsibilities are not conducive to having a family.. These coaches aren't home often for 6pm dinners, helping kids with homework or driving kids to soccer games on Saturday afternoons.. Single lifestyle is perfect for a coach at the D1 level, just not the "drinking at campus bars with teenage girls" part of it of course..It's a shame but there is a type of discrimination against bachelors in college football. I think the NY times ran a piece on this a while back and said there are only 2 or 3 bachelors in Div 1. Which in a way doesn't make sense given the long hours the job entails....not conducive to family men and more suited to a single guy. Bradley, Holgy, etc, I think face some unfair discrimination because of it.
AND, it is a VERY transient job. I would say on average with the turnover with staffs the average coach/assistant is moving every 4 years or so.EOE rules be damned.. kind of ironic since coaching responsibilities are not conducive to having a family.. Except that Maryland is now in the Big Ten so that "domination" would only go so far.Franklin might be interested as his domination of the state might be easier against Johns Hopkins and Towson

I've figured it out.
At the end of the year, Franklin to MD (his 4 game losing streak to end this year will make him nervous); Graham to USC, Holgy to PSU (he probably has a sex scandal in his background, making him eligible); and Sarkasian to WVU. Led by Graham, all will say its their dream job.
Why would he leave Arizona State for Maryland? I'd say that's a step down. B1G is not that much better than PAC, and living in MD, I think MD is probably one of the worst situations in the B1G. they where never really that great in the ACC, their stadium is not that big, they don't sell out, I can't see them ever competing in the B1G in football, now hoops, yes, football no.Somebody call Mrs. Fraud.
He had a drinking problem and was in rehab a couple of times. There's a lot of stuff people don't know about the Bear, good and bad. He had an inner circle that protected him and his secrets to the death.A bartender told you that Bear Bryant was a drunk? I never heard that before.
Huge step down. However, it's pretty obvious who wears the pants in the Penny/Fraud relationship, so I guess anything is possible. Why would he leave Arizona State for Maryland?
