Max Browne to Pitt

Will he still be in uniform for the Rose Bowl? It would be funny if their starter went down and he beat Penn State twice in 3 games.

Its good that he's enrolling in January. I cant imagine him not being the starter.

Yep. Make it an honest competition but he's got to have the edge. If it works out that way, MacVittie can continue to progress, see some duty in 2017, and be our starter for the three years after. I think this is a good thing for MacVittie, too.

I'm hoping TMAC beats him out, I'm ready for his era to begin. This guy has had a terrible collegiate career up to this point. Are we excited about what he was rated out of high school? He reminds me of Sackenberg in a lot of ways.

haha... ummm... what?? Terrible college career? His stats were good even playing 2 top 7 teams in his only 3 games

He enrolled early as a freshman and started 3 total games in his career going 11-of-19 passes (57.9%) for 143 yards.

Consider me unimpressed. There's a reason he never got any burn. Let's see what TMAC has up his sleeve. Even if he struggles as a redshirt freshman we're still building with our program's future qb.

You clearly have the wrong information, this year alone he is:

2016 580-93 507 yards 62.4 comp% 2 td 2 int 6 sacked 111.0 rating

played 10 quarters, sacked 6 times against the likes of alabama with a bad line

not trying to be a downer, but he has played 3 games in 4 yrs and loses his job after 1 game. peterman had 2 yrs of eligibility and savage was proven. are we getting too excited abt what appears to be one of the biggest rivals 5 star busts ever?

from what i read, usc felt he was finished. did anyone else go after him? now getting drake appears to be a great get.

I don't know if anyone went after him. I saw Cal mentioned. But I think Pitt went after him hard. He visited, knew there was an opportunity, and liked Narduzzi and what he heard.

I'm no insider but it appears to me both sides realized there was a fit/need/opportunity so that was that.

As far as USC they started a freshman when the benched him an went on to a good season. So that's why he was finished. No way they're gonna pull that freshman - he's their guy - at least until they land the next 5 star.

well it cant hurt and he at least seems like a good guy.

So...

As a freshman, Browne got beat out by Cody Kessler, a redshirt Sophomore who threw for 10,000 yards at close to a 68% rate
851 1261 67.5 10339 8.2 8.9 88 19 156.4

This year it was highly mobile redshirt freshman Durand who did this playing behind a poor pass protecting line that allowed a ton of pressure that Browne had a hard time with.

213 313 68.1 2,633 26 8 161.0

Browne has been beat out by some really good QB's. He should be past his "deer in the headlights" phase. There's still potential for a very high upside if we can protect him.

Again, Max Browne did not transfer to Pitt unless he was reasonably assured of a starting job. The competition will be in name only.

Browne will be the starter for at least the first 3 games. If we are 1-2 and he is struggling and MacVittie is progressing, maybe you see a change then......but MacVittie is not going to be given the keys for his first road start.....at Penn State. Max Browne has played against Bama, he would be better prepared.

That should be expected. It shouldn't come as a surprise. It's common sense. Our head coach is fully aware of next years QB depth.

I think the thing that impressed me about this story is that the first thing Narduzzi did when he found out Canada was leaving was to message the kid and let him know. Made sure he heard it from the HC and nobody else.
