...the Sooners and the Cowboys were both impressive in their bowl games.
They were the second highest ranked team after Alabama in the SEC. Similar to why USC played in the Rose Bowl instead of Colorado and Florida State in the Orange in place Louisville. Not to mention, the reason Michigan played in the Orange and Wisconsin the Cotton.I'm not ripping on the Big 12 or Oklahoma, but how does one of the better bowls have an 8-4 Auburn team playing in it. Was it an SEC standings thing or they just knew their fans would show up?
Florida State didn't have many marquee wins and they got into the Orange with 3 losses. I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that FSU beat only one ranked team going into bowl season, Florida Gators. It will be more than that now with The U likely finishing in the polls and the win over Michigan. I'd say their best wins this season were Ole Miss, The U, Michigan and Florida. They lost to Louisville, UNC and Clemson though.Auburn beat LSU and Arkansas. That's all that is needed to get you into a major bowl out of the SEC. Good for their fans, but for general viewers.
I hear you, but at least the ACC proved to be the most balanced conference this season. Auburn also lost 4 games. It was a weird year, with so many teams with 2+ losses playing in major bowl games. I can't help but think that Pitt missed an opportunity.Florida State didn't have many marquee wins and they got into the Orange with 3 losses. Conference had 4 Winning Teams OU, OKSU, WVU & KSU! The Six Other had losing records and OU lost to OSU that got blown away by Clemson? WVU did not beat one Ranked Team? Better to break them up and put them in Power Four conferences, again, no Team for them in the CFB Playoffs....the Sooners and the Cowboys were both impressive in their bowl games.
I've been saying that for a couple years now. Even when the big ten has good teams at the top, this year especially the bottom is complete garbage. The ACC rarely has any really bad teams, maybe one or two at most in some seasons. Even when there's not a great team, the ACC is always good enough that there are usually never any guaranteed wins.I hear you, but at least the ACC provided to be the most balanced conference this season. Football games are zero-sum games, someone wins or loses and for the entire season, it not just about one game. So, games can be weighed and on many other factors as well.I think we spend too much time trying to rank the conferences when everything is predicated on individual matchups for each team. As a whole, I don't think the Big 12 was very good at all, but teams stocked with Texas talent could pose matchup nightmares for more than a few teams from other P5 conferences. It honestly just depends on the draw for a specific game.

Okay, well after 20,000 posts, I would think you would be intelligent enough (although my expectations are low for a guy who types in oversized bold and blue italics in an attempt to be noticed) to realize how silly it is that everyone is in a rush to rank everything based on extremely limited facts. When everybody plays everybody - which will never happen - is when I'll start paying attention to these rankings. The majority media consensus was that the Big 10 was the best conference coming into the bowl season. I never really thought that (I've argued all season that teams such as Nebraska and Wisconsin have been riding the coattails of early-season wins against teams - Oregon and LSU - that didn't end up being as good as we thought they were at the time). Regardless, assuming someone though the Big 10 was the best conference coming into the bowl season, why should seven games (the losses) change that? Every team has a clunker here and there; Ohio State's just so happened to be on a big stage against a team who is not in their conference. And Michigan (sans their best player) and Penn State could have easily both won, so I'm not about to rush to judgement based on games against teams in their home states that were within a field goal. I simply don't think that we can rank conferences based on the fact that each team in it plays 1-3 OOC games against other P5 opponents... random opponents who may or may nor be a good matchup for that individual team.Football games are zero-sum games, someone wins or loses and for the entire season, it not just about one game. Individuals Performances are also factors weighed in Post-Season Awards and that is just one factor as well! Saying that should be the Individual Match-ups Factor when it is a Team Sport is even far less reliable?
Texas talent is loaded on many of the Big-12 Teams, and the Big-12 Conference does not do as well in the NFL Draft and that dates back to 2000. Which is another negative factor.
Big-12 have struggled the past years since the CFB Playoffs invites have come online. again, that is an additional factor as well.
When playing other conferences, evaluating Conferences is always part of the CFB Pre-During-Post Season and part of the evaluations as another factors as well.
The Three Bowls are now part of CFB Playoffs Invites as well, so they are factors as well.
I can see not one factor or Bowl Games being that big a factor but they are still factors to added as part of an entire evaluation with other factors.
After just 4 Posts your comments make no sense when it is common to weigh Conferences based on Games, Wins, Losses, NFL Draft and Playoff Invite Factors! Every year it is use by Sports Media and discussed anyhow no matter how any of us think on the issues.
Conferences themselves brag and advertise it too.
