First, that was the best I've seen Trey play. Much more in control and more sound with protecting the ball. Very, very smooth and confident when making his moves. Also more focused and decisive. Played excellent defense, too.
Is he "getting it" more? Was it the particular opponent? Relief over finals being finished? Time will tell. But he was excellent. Of course so were XJ and Toney (who also played the best game I've seen him play).
But after the general banter with Trey from Bill, Dick and Curtis, Groat asked McGowens a question about - now that he's been here a while and since he's from a different part of the country (South Carolina) - how he liked being in Pittsburgh in general? Trey's responses to the questions before that one were the typical player responses in those situations: "Thank you"; "Yes sir"; "I appreciate that"; etc. But in answer to that question TM just gushed. He said he LOVES it here. Not just the basketball part. But also the school, the city and the people.
Thought that was very encouraging to hear. Because it can help with a player's general attitude/self-confidence and his ability to succeed. Would also imagine that when he is helping to recruit other players to the program, that kind of sincere endorsement of the program and environment at Pitt will help.
