So you throw for 782 yards, you score 90 points and you still lose by 17 points.

Meadville rushed for over 1000 yards. Some dude rushed himself for 744 yards and 10 TD's.

This game did not go to OT.

How is this possible?

I don't buy this as legit for a high school game. I think the two coaches talked before the game and set this up. I don't think it is possible for this to happen unless the teams flat out said they would not tackle each other for fear of injury

I dunno, I guess Dubois won its first game 51-41. So......

This score was very real. I'm from the area and if their is one thing that dubois can do its score points. Since they got their new coach a few years ago they've had a dominant offense each and every year. The difference between this and every other game they've played the past few years is someone could actually score enough to keep up with them. To go along with it they have a real young team this year on the defensive side of the ball. If I had my guess this won't be the only time they score 60+ points and lose this year.

100 was always the goal in techno super bowl and if you didn't win by 100, simply restart and try again

maybe both teams deflated their balls

I'd have to think DuBois qb and Meadville rb would be worth taking a look at. Maybe they'll never play anywhere big in college, but the Pitt coaches should definitely keep an eye on their games the rest of the year.

I have been working in the area for the last 7 years or so with a ton of time to kill at night on the weekends, so here is my take.
Dubois is a AAAA school playing about 8 out of 9 weeks vs. AAA schools in the regular season. They have lost their first game in the AAAA play-offs to teams like State College by a score of 28-14 or 28-7 for about the last five years.

Dubois would be hard pressed to score more than 21 points versus any WPIAL AAAA team with a winning record.

As was mentioned before, the coach knows the offense inside and out and could probably be successful as an OC on the next level.

Not sure but I think I heard pre-season that Meadville RB is a D1 prospect

The last Dubois QB was recruited lightly by smaller FCS schools and decided to attend East Stroudsburg. Their isn't to much talent in the area so don't look into their stats to heavily

I've been watching high school football around NW Pa for 40+ years. To be charitable, the level of play at the vast majority of the schools in this region is sinking like a rock in a deep lake. It is really sad. Lots of reasons: Loss of population, poor economy that is eliminating the middle class, video games, drug issues, competition from soccer for players, etc. Many of these games are a joke. Varsity teams that would get blown out by the jayvee teams from the 60s, 70s, 80s when many schools played pretty good football. I don't see it ever getting better. Trust me when I tell you a high scoring game in this area indicates two pretty poor teams.

The Meadville coach said those attending got their monies worth. The fans that were there should have been given their money back as they were leaving.

That's not fb. The score is even high for a hs basketball game.

To score that many points. They must have some decent athletes. Those same kids can't/ don't play defense?

It happened. The amazing thing was it was only something like 28-28 at halftime.

You guys do know that DuBois is Jerry Sandusky and Michael Jackson's favorite town, don't you? Sorry, just had to get that in this thread.

Along these lines....Clairton puts up 72 on almost everyone. Is it not time for either Clairton to play up, or....some of these Single A schools to just go away. They can't field competitive teams. Clairton only scores 72 because they usually are up 50 at halftime.

HS Football is really falling off here, due to enrollments, other issues, general lethargy and drugs in many of these areas. I don't know why when some of these schools struggle to field teams (not just football) you can't put two HS's together. Hell, the NFL did it during WWII.

And on that note, those who accuse the Catholic schools of recruiting (which I assume they do), Rashard Wheeler is from Wilkinsburg. Should a kid of this talent be punished and banished to never get noticed by playing for them instead of Central?

I think u r right.

What I don't understand is that if you are meadville or dubois, your best athletes are most likely going to be playing both sides of the ball. you would think if there were a bunch of guys capable of putting up 1that much offense would be athletic enough to stop someone else from doing the same.

The winning QB was 0-3 passing.. Losing QB threw for 10 TDs and 800+.. You won't see this too often.. No doubt in my mind this was choreographed or manipulated somehow.. Can't say I blame them, not much going on north of I-80, till hockey season at least..

I can't link it through my phone but usatoday has all the scoring in a video. For some reason this game was covered by the erie newspaper and some reporter filmed the game. Looking at the highlights it seems like just really bad defense

Sure, stop trying to field teams, so the kids that do want to play will get frustrated and start smoking meth instead.

You really think this was planned ahead of time? How would that be done? Tell your players to let the other team score?

Both coaches would have been fired. There's no way they could get away with that.

I don't know Ric, they were talking about that exact topic on radio this morning. I just cant imagine having a team talented enough to score this much but not talented enough to tackle someone or stop a runner from rushing under 700 yards. The QB cant complete a pass, you don't think a decent coordinator can focus his players on stopping the running back out of a Wing T offense?

It's not that those schools should stop trying to field teams, it's that those schools should cease to exist. Owt mentions Wheeler potentially getting "stuck" at Wilkinsburg. Well in 2015 there is no good reason, absolutely no good reason, why a school district like Wilkinsburg still exists. And they aren't the only ones, there are a dozen or more in the WPIAL alone that should be merged with other districts. The problem is that too many of these communities hold on to their dear old alma mater at the expense of giving the kids who live there a poor education with little academic or athletic opportunities.

When Wilkinsburg merges with the Pittsburgh school district the kids at Wilkinsburg aren't going to lose their opportunity to play, they are only going to lose their opportunity to play for Wilkinsburg. Assuming that Wilkinsburg actually fields a team in the sport they want to play. Just like the kids from Duquesne didn't lose a chance to play, they just play now at either West Mifflin or East Allegheny instead.

That's exactly it. I did not say they should not field teams. I said some of these tiny schools should look to shop out their teams merging with another. Doesn't do really anyone good when there are 15-18 kids out for a football team. That is across 4 grades. Most of whom are likely 9th graders or Sophs, so you have 14 year olds going against 17 and 18 year olds in many of these Single A schools.

And yes, Joe is right, the bigger picture is some of these school districts should no longer exist. Forget about football, they can't educate the kids, they can't afford it and the dwindling tax bases in these communities makes it almost cost prohibitive. Think bigger than football. But again, that is a bigger problem, a bigger issue. I just find it interesting in the 1960's, in the middle of the baby boomer hey day, the politicians did the right thing and merged many, many school districts that we know today. And that was when there was viable tax base and student population. I know in my area alone, Har Brack and Tarentum became Highlands. Deer Lakes emerged from a couple of schools. Valley came about from New Ken and Arnold. That happened all around.

What I am advocating for football at least, some of these tiny schools or who can't field a competitive team, well combine them with another school. I look at HS Hockey, Highlands and Deer Lakes cannot field individual teams, so why not combine the two and play? After all, isn't about the kids? Give them a chance, I am not saying to take away chances.

Dubois' qb is a soph, their coach has an excellent offensive mind. Some day he will be discovered by a school desperate for some offense ,maybe the WPIAL.

I don't know? Sounds like fun to me. I think I would have enjoyed starting for all four years and playing the whole time, even if the team got pounded every week.

I might be odd, but I have memories of enjoying being part of bad teams and playing a lot as being better than being part of championship teams and riding the bench, lol.

Clairton is in the middle of an incredible run of great athletes. This will run it's course. Clairton hasn't always been this good and Clairton will not be this good forever. They are playing in the class they should be playing in.

I wouldn't want to see a game like this every week, but it likely was hilariously entertaining to watch.
