Megapixel of PITT Game

Found myself. I want to lessen my psu fan number prediction after viewing it

Wow. Seems like a lot fewer PSU fans than I thought. Maybe less than 10K. I scanned the sections which I felt had the most PSU fans besides the actual visitor sections and even those were only 50% PSU.

Did they announce when they were doing this? Little disappointed my wife and kids were at the concession stand.

Exactly smf. I sit on visitors side but less than I thought. They did not announce it

I received an email from the athletic dept that they were doing it and PNC was sponsoring but they didn;t say when they were doing it during the game. In between periods seems like an off time but maybe that would explain how there get in the middle of the field to take the picture.

This cant be right... where is all the white????

I thought the stadium was going to be all UPS? I bet they all came wearing Pitt shirts... darn it, living in the cow patties away from internet and relying on tin cans to communicate!! You have to feel badly for those mixed up signals

Yea i got that email and knew they were doing it but wasnt sure when. If I had known, the wife and kids would have waited but oh well.

Looking through it there was more than 10K. I see a lot of PSU fans, but not the 50/50 the media was portraying last week. I'm guessing around 65/35.

The upper deck end zone adds quite a bit, I'd say between 17-20K. More than ND brings, but no more than WVU...guess what, we're just about maxing out in how many Pitt alumni/fans there are who can get to games. I've come to accept that. Unless we're ranked in the top 10 and have a Larry type player, it's not going to be any different.

I said before the game, based on numbers of season tickets renewed, etc, going in, that it was going to be most likely 15K...but no way over 20K. I sat only on the home side, and I thought after leaving the game it was maybe 25K max. But after looking at pictures of the stands on the home side, and then being reminded of how few were around me on the home side (almost none) I've downgraded that. They might have had 20K. After looking at Pitt fans in the upper deck area of this megapixel shot, it might actually be closer to 15K. I may be known for doing research, but there is no way I'm going to waste time counting fans in that photo. 15-20K is probably fair. Anyone claiming over 25K is off their rocker, IMO.

If we had about 10 people volunteer, we could break it up and do it.

Absolutely no way the upper north end zone had 17-20K PSU fans. Less than half of it was PSU. A lot of it was overflow students and Pitt fans.

I'd say after being at the game and seeing who was there, it was MAX 15K PSU fans total in the whole stadium. There were easily 55K Pitt fans there.

At least 20k Psu fans, probably closer to 25k.

Did anyone see the two individuals (not sitting together) that were wearing Texas longhorn gear?

MacVittie has a sister who goes to UT and plays softball I think, so it could have been someone from the family. I've seen the father post photos on Twitter down here in Austin attending one of his daughter's games in Pitt gear.

I think the MacVittie family some $$$$$.

FWIW, the picture is completely screwed up in the upper deck visitors side. Some sections are actually on the picture twice (around 512-513) and other sections (for instance where I sit in 511) are not in the picture at all. If you look at it closely you can, for instance, see the exact same usher standing in the stairs in two different places.

Did anyone see the panoramic print this gigapixel company is selling?

I am disappointed by it. They chose to take the picture from the home sideline (the TV view). So, in the picture you see the PSU sideline and more PSU fans since there werr more PSU fans over there then on Pitt's sideline.

Buying a picture like that is usually an automatic for me but I dont know if I want it now since it showcases PSU a little too much. Anyone else feel that way?

Ha, I noticed that too.

here's another pic from the Pitt News:

Not just the upper deck. It looks like James from State College is simultaneously in the huddle and talking to an assistant further up the sideline.

End of first quarter, I was at bathroom, so was the family who sits beside me (Adam Gunn, nice guy). Only my wife is there.

So you're saying there were only 45,000 Pitt fans??? I was there and I'm being generous with the 15,000 PSU fans. And I sit on the visitors side. The upper north end zone had some PSU fans in the one corner, maybe a third of that section. The rest were spattered around, mostly on the visitor's side in the upper deck, and not many there either. The difference was that when the nitters did cheer, it was loud because they all have big mouths.

Think of it this way. There's roughly 160 sections for seats. The upper enzones make up 10. For arguments sake, say they are 100% PSU fans. I just scanned the rest of the field and would probably give them another 10 sections of fans if you smashed them all together.... So 20...hell, i'll be generous and say 25/160 sections were PSU fans.....so 16% of the sections were PSU fans. Multiply that by 70k fans and it turns out to be arouns 11k fans. About what I expected.

Correct. You just have to use rudimentary math and statistics (wow did I hate that class though, anyone else have Sheryl May, she was my worst prof). 15K is the absolute maximum they had but as few as 10K.

Heck, even the PSU booster seats had Pitt fans in them, maybe 50 or so but still.

Take away the upper deck endzone which has most of the visitor's allotment, all you have to do is look for the "whitest" sections and even those ones are, at best 50% PSU and those are only a few sections.

Its just pretty common to greatly overstate the amount of visiting fans for 2 reasons. Teams dont usually travem well to Heinz. This isnt the SEC so we are taken back anytime a team brings more than a few hundred.

It gets loud when ND, PSU, WVU do something good. OK, it does, but how do you judge "loudness." We think its loud but we are also not uses to fans cheering for another team in our own stadium. So, psychologically, it seems louder than it really is.

Honestly, anyone who can't do simple math that truly thought this was going to be a 50/50 split is too dumb to even speak with. That goes double for local media who must have simply been trolling to spark radio discussion.

Pitt's AD broke it down based on renewals, and how they allotted single game tickets and was quoted on it in the run up to the game. Never mind that his comments made total sense, let's just run with a false narrative.

I saw a tweet the day before the game from a PSU fan saying they were going to have 65% of the fans in the building. You can't fix stupid.
