How on earth could the John Hugley of this year have helped tonight? It’s like some people completely forget how bad he was up until him sitting out
A little harder to push him around in the lane versus the 150 pound, 6'11" freshman.
No one expects the Big John of this year to help. But we could really use the Big John from last year.
Still not sure how much he helps. One of the reasons the offense is so successful is because there is no one clogging the lane when Burton or Nelly drives, you don’t have to play through him and you get wide open 3’s. And he’s a huge liability defensively, this year and last.
Seemed like the OP thinks this year Hugley helps.
Duke had nearly as many offensive rebounds as our rebound total.
The size and 5 fouls couldn't hurt.

They really need some sort of presence when playing a team like Duke. We got abused tonite no question and you can’t just assume John can’t turn it around, whatever his problems are. Tonite Neither Nellie nor any of the other guys had much success driving the lane. John in the low post drawing some bigs to him would have helped.
I actually think that even this year's Hugley helps a lot tonight, especially in the 2nd Half. He gets a couple rebounds and maybe we win. We were utterly manhandled inside. You cant watch that and think he would have made things worse.
Correct, we didn't lose because Hugley was sitting out. We had the talent to beat them on the court.
May I ask how many wide open 3's did we have playing without Hugs in the 2nd half tonight??? We created nothing, we couldn't even get open 2's. When they brought the length out top in the 2nd half to shut off the lane, we could have used a low post player to play through, wouldn't you agree??? I get that Hugley isn't ready, but, the John Hugley of last year, gives you a different option to attack a defense that has made an adjustment.
I watched Michigan, Vanderbilt and VCU where he undoubtedly made things worse. He was never as good as anyone (especially you) thought he was and as I said for 2 years simply got numbers by opportunity. Lane clogging, below the rim bigs who are liabilities defensively don’t help in the ACC
How does Hugley help get you wide open 3’s? Duke would never have doubled him. They have 3 7 footers who could’ve all stayed behind and he takes away Burton and Nelly’s driving lanes.
Nelly having 4 turnovers and zero assists is why they lost. Not because they didn’t have John Hugley.

Didn’t have a ton of minutes but 2 of the last three games he had zero boards. Snagged 5 in his last game but that was Sacred Heart. Had 1 against Michigan. 2 in the Northwestern game. You look at this whole picture and it’s not hard to imagine the kid just isn’t right. And it’s not just the knee. No friggin way.
Yep. Just disappointing to see a senior Pg with zero assists. 9 assists overall not a good recipe. Too much one on one and setting for deep contested mid range will be bad for this team long term.
Right, but don’t let any of those facts mislead you. The guy 4 inches shorter and less athletic who seemed out of it and hasn’t rebounded all year would’ve won Pitt the game tonight.
Burton being fueled by rage by none of the Tobacco Road schools recruiting him is good and bad. Good Burton is fueled by Tobacco Road rage and beat the brakes off of UNC and NC State. Bad Burton fueled by Tobacco Road rage is what we saw in the second half tonight.
Especially since six of those were by Burton. All the other guys we played tonight combined had three. That is no a winning recipe.
Apparently, no one here knows what Hugley is going through right now.
