U. Miami is in the NIT Finals playing 2 games at the Garden. They did it the right way. Pitt at home against a weak GW team seemed like they didn't care. Miami, another ACC team, held its head high and are still playing. Sorry but our past success in BB might just be that...in the past.

Stop the bs man. I hate it when people talk like that. One bad year in the last 12. Really. Where was Miami doing the years Pitt was in the NCAA and had number one seeds. Just stop man please.

This is probably true. Our 01-02 to 2010-11 run is our "glory days" era similar to football's late 70's/early 80's 7 or 8 year run.

As for Miami goes, I wouldn't really compare our NIT effort to theirs for 2 reasons:

1. They're a lot better than us.
2. They got a very easy first game.

I said before the NIT, for a program like Pitt, the key to the NIT is winning the first game. Most teams sleepwalk through their first game and upsets happen often (Miller's AZ team lost to 8 seed Bucknell a few years ago). But, if you win your first, then that changes things. You start to feel good, confident, and all of a sudden its something worthwhile. It starts to feel "normal" again. Miami basically got a bye playing a MEAC school in Round 1. We would have beaten NC Central.

Miami is trending upwards though.

We all know the big momentum gained by South Carolina winning back to back NIT titles.

The season ended on a dud, I expect big turnover as a result.
Move on and wait for the news.

I hope Kevin Ollie has another gig lined up since UConn lost their NIT opener at home too.

I was working out last night at LA Fitness, I was on the treadmill doing my workout and the Miami/Temple game was right in front of my face! I didn't realize that it was on, I had tuned out the NIT after Pitt shyt the bed in it. I remember thinking that those people who say, "it's better not to go to the NIT, the NIT doesn't matter, who cares?, etc.etc." ARE IDIOTS! Damn right, I'd be MFing PROUD right now of Pitt, if they had been playing in that game against Miami instead of Temple. Anybody that say's "it doesn't matter that we lost to GW" or that you get nothing out of succeeding in the NIT is WRONG.

It's not all about THE FUTURE, winning SOMETHING just for TODAY is a good thing too. Unlike most, I was proud Pitt won the CBI, crappy tournament that it is, winning ANYTHING is better than losing. I don't know if they have a banner for that CBI, but I'd hang one, why not? it's the only post season tournament they've ever won, acting like they're above that is a JOKE, they aren't, they have 2 Elite 8s, 1 Final Four when the tournamnet had only 8 teams total and Zero NIT titles, so no, they AREN'T too good or accomplished to be proud of a CBI Title.

I tried to preach this from about late Feb.on,but most thought it was ncaa or bust. And from the results and effort in the NIT it was...Sometimes you have to take what you're given and make the most of it and Pitt didn't do that in the NIT.I'm like you, I'd be very proud and happy if Pitt had made it to MSG.

Poke fun at it all you want, but it was a championship of somekind. And that particular team at one point was headed no where fast. But they made the most of their opportunity.

Who won the NIT last year? How about the year before? Nobody cares who wins, and how did that NIT title help PSU? Not Invited Tourney.

By your logic, what did it gain Pitt to go the elite 8 a few years back? Who cares who went to the eight a few years ago? We have not even been to the sweet sixteen in recent years. Most would have been proud if Pitt was playing in NY this week.

The NCAA tourney is the only basketball tourney that matters. Nobody cares who wins the JV championship. It is like bragging about being the tallest midget.

But if Pitt would win it, I'd never forget it and care about it forever, I'd have a DVD of it and rewatch sometimes. Who won the NCAA Tourney in 2000, 2004, 2006? 2008? 2011? Answer fast! Don't go look it up? I have no idea, I don't remember? But damn straight if it had been Pitt it would be burned into my memory banks forever! Like I know Pitt went to the Elite 8 in '74 and '09, but I don't remember who won those tournaments to be honest without looking it up.

And it's not about "helping the team" or doing something for the "future" either, it's just about winning for TODAY, even if you resume sucking tomorrow, like the CBI in 2012, I'm glad we won it, I'll never forget that Pitt actually WON SOMETHING! I don't remember who won the NCAAs in '12, but I'll never forget that Pitt won the CBI. I just wish I could get a DVD of the Final and watch it because it wasn't televised back then.

That's not true, If my team wins the JV Championship I CARE, JUST FOR MYSELF, I get satisfaction, just WITHIN MYSELF, not so I can brag to OTHER PEOPLE, just so I can feel satisfied that my team did something good, and winning the NIT or the CBI is a GOOD, if not great accomplishment. Winning the lesser tournaments is better than losing them or not qualifying and something to be proud of. By your logic, Pitt should turn down EVERY bowl bid they are offered, unless they get invited to the 4 team playoff, why go? NOBODY CARES who wins that? It's all about whether OTHERS care for you and some, right?

A minor bowl game is not an accomplishment when 2/3 of the teams make it. Making the NCAA tourney is more difficult. Where is the CBI banner?

It doesn't have to be an "accomplishment" it's just for US to watch and have some fun, be entertained, it doesn't need to prove a damn thing! I watched every second of Pitt's agonizing bowl loss last year, hanging on every second of it on the edge of my seat, I barely glanced at the Ohio State/Oregon title game because I didn't care who won.

They should have a CBI banner, it's the absolute very best post season tournament they ever won! It's arrogant to act like Pitt is "too good" to recognize that, because they aren't, they don't have acomplishments so great that the CBI is beneath them.

Sorry if my target wasn't clear. I think anyone who belittles the CBI championship then criticizes the lack of effort in the NIT is a hypocrite. I wasn't being sarcastic, they did it correctly in the CBI and they should have made more of an effort to do it correctly in the NIT.

I want to know when did this whole attitude started that you only care about the BIG games and anything else, you belittle and don't even want to see it? Or the whole thing about "losing for better draft picks", or "I'm done watching until next year, since we're eliminated from the playoffs" ????? When did sports fans stop thinking about TODAY? I just watch every game that I can of my team, every game is a self contained thing where you are 0-0 against today's opponent thinking "let's win TODAY" , and no matter how meaningless that game is, I want them to WIN, TODAY with no concern about the meaning of it or the future for that matter. And I'd rather watch my team's meaningless game than the WORLD FCCKING CHAMPIONSHIP if that's on at the same time! And people here call me a bad Pitt fan?

Why would you care what anyone thinks of you on this forum? You are not a bad Pitt fan...you are a cheap Pitt fan, and basically only want to see Pitt perform for free--and expect that they perform at the highest of levels. You complain when Pitt does not win, but yet don't give money to support Pitt's efforts to improve or purchase tickets. I suspect some here believe you have twisted morals, but everyone is entitled to their own set of beliefs, so I am not judging. From where I sit, I think you get what you are paying for with respect to Pitt athletics. Feel better now? Hail to Pitt!

I have better things to do with my money. And at the same time, I have access to some Pitt tickets at times and even inside info sometimes. And at the same time, you aren't required to pay anything to voice an opinion about any sports team, I feel totally fine with my choices. Rich & famous people get comped freebies and swag all over the place-and they can afford to pay for anything, so I love being a normal, middle class guy, nobody special that has insider access and gets comped FREE STUFF from a major college sports program. And PITTLAW, people don't call me a bad fan because I don't "give money". they call me that because I refuse to portray a "positive smiley-faced attitude" when the teams SUCK. Like this past season in both football & basketball.

Kentucky lost to Robert Morris in the 1st rd of the NIT and then made the final 4 the next 2 years. I wouldn't make too much of what a team does in the NIT on future performance. There are too many other variables.

Stanford won the 2012 NIT, went right back to the NIT in 2013, and lost in rd 1. Next year they make the sweet 16.

Why does it always have to be about the future? I'd want to win the NIT this year, even if they went 10-20 next year and gained nothing from the experience. Just win what you're in TODAY, and worry about later, later.
