#1. Miami game is frustrating (Standford was too, teams struggle welcome to college football). We had our chances like other games this year, but the reality is we don't have top 25 offensive talent. Our guys play hard, they clearly have over achieved but these guys are not NFL players (good college players, but not stud pros). Also we do not have the same quality depth and recruiting on the offensive side of the ball (I believe this is due to having new OC every year). If Whipple stays around we will be better.
#2. The defense is good enough to put us in the top 10, but I don't think I'm jumping on the playoff level band wagon just yet. They have been asked to defend short fields way too much and I could only imagine the increase in turnovers if we could win field position regularly.
#3. Our special teams has been poor this year and so has the running game for the most part. I'm pretty confident in Borbs and Powell as running game/special teams coaches and wonder if they are both having a hard time adapting to Whipple's pass first style of play. Our special teams (especially punt return) has been pinned back all year. We have had almost no chances to let Ffrench loose. I'm wondering if we were more aggressive on 4th down in the red zone we could get more out of special teams (ie defense forces punts from opponents on territory).
#4. Whipple doesn't have any hair left to pull out from these drop passes. Drops are bad (obvious). But on to Whipple and the red zone. I really think we need to Wildcat or KP run to help with our redzone issues. Keep it simple pick up an extra blocker.
#5. Fire Narduzzi.... This is nuts. Guy has us in every game and we 1 QB or 1 Tyler Boyd away from being a consistent coastal winner. Heck he might end up with 10 wins this year (never know). Right now we finally have some momentum as a program and people want to throw that away? Come on I know losing games you should win is frustrating, but that is part of the process of taking this thing to the next level. So show up, support this team (they do play hard every game), and realize we are about to be really good consistently......very soon.
