Miami's defense has fallen off a cliff since the UVA game last season. Take a look at the QBR rating for P5 quarterbacks going against the Miami defense since last season:

2017
DUKE
Jones QBR: 13.2 21/41 166 yards 1 INT
FSU
Blackman QBR: 21 17/28 203 2TD, 2 INT
GTECH
Marshall QBR: 20.2 3/7 55 1 TD
CUSE
Dungey QBR: 18.5 13/41 137 4 INT
UNC
Elliott QBR: 21.3 16/39 173 1 TD, 3 INT
VTECH
Jackson QBR: 12.8 20/32 197, 2 INT
ND
Wimbush QBR: 4.5 10/21 119 1 TD, 2 INT
UVA
Benkert QBR: 64.6 28/37 384 4 TD 1 INT
PITT
Pickett QBR: 76.8 18/29 193 1 TD
CLEMSON
Bryant QBR: 86.8 23/29 252 1 TD
WISCONSIN
Hornibrook QBR: 91.9 23/34 258 4 TD

2018

LSU
Burrow QBR: 56.9 11/24 140

Those stats are pretty damn interesting. Either UVA figured out how to exploit Miami's defense or Miami's focus just disappeared after their big win against Notre Dame. Miami's defense hasn't had an interception since that UVA game and even Joe Burrow's pedestrian numbers really stand out against the success Miami was having early last season.

After watching last night, it seems Miami's offense is not good enough to score without the defense setting them up with good field position after a turnover. They've lost almost every game they did not record an interception and they were extremely luck to win that GTECH game. Suddenly, the ACC Coastal looks wide open.
