Matty McConnell can play and shoot it.

Both passed by Pitt and two guards that can shoot it better than any current guards Ptt has now.

Oh our guards can't play defense either so don't use that is an excuse as to why they are not Panthers

Yes TJ was a big miss and his brother Matty they are saying is better than TJ. I saw Matty play since he was in 4th grade he was always the best player on the floor even as a little tike.

I saw a few articles that said Rober Morris got a steal many high level teams will regret not recruiting that kid.

I'm sure Pitt regrets not recruiting TJ well maybe not they missed a chance to grab his brother Matty and passed again.

Might be a need for a change at the top soon if JD can't turn this around. I'm sure the new AD if ever hired and Chancellor will be looking closely at the revenue generator that plays at the Pete now that the football team has an new leader.

JD always held Pitt accountable to upping his contract when schools came a calling. Now it's Pitt's turn to hold JD accountable to win more games and get to the NCAA torunament and advacne and start earning those past rasies.

Just saying!

I'd say at this point McConnell is better than Robinson, but ever so slightly. They're very similar players. Trade them and AZ and Pitt's records are the exact same I would guess. The frustrating thing was Robinson was Top 50/75 and McConnell probably didn't have a ranking and they're both of the same talent level. I realize they're in much different classes but our legendary DeMatha PG is no better than the local kid from CV.

As for Mason, everybody says he can't play defense and that he'd score 8 but give up 16. But isnt that what Wright does? Mason wouldn't start for us but I'll take anybody who shoots as well as that..........anybody. Throw them in the game, run a set play, etc.

Not Really.

Player A averaging 9.1 ppg, 5 assists, 3 rebounds
Player B averaging 9.6 ppg, 6 .3 assists, 3.8 rebounds

Player a ranked 15th in assist to turnover ratio
Player b ranked 7th

JRob is Player A
TJ is Player B

Strange timing, considering Cam scored 19 last night, too.

I'm so excited for a round of "We missed on obscure player X" threads. They are the BEST!

That's just about what Pitt's entire roster does.

We should choose some good offensive players JUST BECAUSE we want some offense and not pass on them JUST BECAUSE they aren't good defenders! You're not going to win 1-0, you NEED offense too, and we rarely have enough of it.

Micah Mason in two years with an awful Duquesne team has averaged 12.5 PPG and 10.6 PPG getting 28-32 minutes per game.

Cam Wright has averaged 10.5 PPG and 9.2 PPG getting the same minutes for Pitt against much better competition.

Player A also averaged 34 minutes. Shot 36% from the field. and averaged 1.1 steals per game.
Player B averaged 30 minutes per game. Shot 49% from the field and averaged 2.1 steals per game.

Player B is a Cousy finalist.

I would take Player B every time and my team would be the better for it because he is a better player.

Yep, slightly better

TJ gets you the extra steal per game is a slightly better shooter, not not elite.

Let me put it this way. Player C Shot 46% from the field, averaged 1.4 steals per game. 3 Assist and 3 RPG, scoring 9.2 PPG.
How about Player D Shot 41 % from the field, 4.6APG, 3 RPG, and 1.6SPG, scoring 13.7PPG?

Oh...and James Robinson was a Cousy award finalist as a sophmore last year, too.

I posted about TJ McConnell on this board back when he was a senior in HS - after seeing him destroy a pretty darn good Hampton squad. I suggested at the time that I thought he was better than Duquesne material and potentially Big East material. And I got absolutely and universally skewered. Not sure if it was you, UP#1, or maybe it was Pitt79, but pretty sure one of you old crotchety guys said something to the effect that he only got a scholarship from Duquesne "because of Aunt Suzie". The sentiment was clear that he wasn't even a D1 player. Holy cow, given that, what would have been the sentiment if Pitt had recruited him?

Nice of many here to have the selective memory and turn around and now be critical of Pitt for not recruiting him.

I believe you.

I will also state I find it hard to believe that's Pitt's program will be better with MORE western PA hoops players.

You're getting ahead of yourself w/ McConnell

The proper move is to wait until AFTER he has a big college game and then complain.

NBA range !

Have to tip your hat, he has a physical ailment that has to monitored daily.

Mason, McConnell, Jeter, Minnie, etc. along with a few others, not bad. Minnie has more upside than Artis. And if you don't care for the Western Pa. guys go over to North East Ohio, they play a good brand of ball there too, ask Lebron!

How many more wins would pitt have with TJ instead of robinson?

How many fewer wins would AZ have with Robison instead of TJ?

My guess is the difference is negligible.

Maybe a game or two difference, because TJ is a better outside shooter. He may have had a few games where his shooting made a difference. 49% is very good for a point guard.

TJ made 32% of his 3s.

From what I understand Minnie had some very serious concerns around his academics. Pitt sniffed around but had to back out because of those issues.

TJ McConnell committed to Duquesne as a 5'1" freshman in high school. Then when he transferred, Pitt was blocked.

Micah Mason was lucky to get an offer from Drake, considering his health status his senior year.

Matty McConnell is going to Robert Morris, it's not like Pitt lost out to a major program for a big time local talent.

This is getting ridiculous.
